  • Publication number: 20150021221
Abstract: A package system for a medical device is disclosed. The package system may include a first part and a second part, where a holding platform can be incorporated into the first part of the package system and a collection tray can be incorporated into the second part of the package system. The first part may include leg portions. The leg portions of the first part can be folded and fitted into matching pockets of the second part, so that the first part of the package system can provided a relatively elevated and stable holding platform to hold the medical device. The package system can contain the medical device in the package system in a storage state, and hold the medical device with the holding platform in an application state.

  • Patent number: 8753363
Abstract: An implantable vessel occlusive device and method for occluding a vessel are described, for example to occlude the urethra or bladder neck. The devices and methods described utilize an occlusive member connected to a control mechanism. The occlusive member is reversibly changed from a non-occlusive condition to an occlusive condition, for example by depressing an activation button contained within a resilient, elastomeric cover surrounding the control mechanism. In the occlusive position, an initial tension is applied to the occlusive member through a tensioning suture. The tension is translated into an occlusive pressure applied to the urethra or bladder neck that is sufficient to prevent urinary leakage. The non-occlusive position can be obtained by depressing the de-activation button. The occlusive member is constructed to allow elution of drugs, such as may be required to combat infection or tissue encapsulation from its surface.

  • Patent number: 8749230
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for measuring a thickness of an object. A first portion of a device is positioned on a first side of the object, and a second portion of the device is positioned on an opposite side of the object. The first portion includes at least one first mount and at least one eddy current sensor coupled to the first mount. The second portion includes at least one second mount and at least one target coupled to the second mount. The first mount is magnetically coupled to the second mount such that the eddy current sensor is oriented to interact with the target to enable the thickness of the object to be measured.

  • Publication number: 20140090753
Abstract: A method for adjusting properties of components made of an alloy includes providing historical data for one or more properties of components made of an alloy and produced at different times. The components are solution heat treated at a pre-established solution heat treatment condition. A trending change in the one or more properties is then identified and test specimens made of the alloy are provided. The test specimens are divided into a plurality of groups and solution heat treated at different conditions. The test specimens are then mechanically tested to provide empirical data. The empirical data is compared to performance criteria and a solution heat treatment condition is identified over which the empirical data meets the performance criteria. The pre-established solution heat treatment condition is then adjusted for future ones of the plurality of components according to the identified solution heat treatment condition.

  • Publication number: 20130274546
Abstract: A totally implantable method for occluding the urethra or bladder neck utilizing an occlusive cuff connected to a control mechanism via a conduit tube. The occlusive cuff is reversibly changed from an activated (occlusive condition) to a de-activated (non-occlusive) condition by depressing a deactivation button contained within a resilient, elastomeric sheath surrounding the control mechanism. The occlusive condition is once again obtained by depressing an activation button also situated within the resilient sheath. In the occlusive condition, a preset tension is applied to a flexible diaphragm through a tensioning suture by a constant force spring contained within the control mechanism. This tension is translated into an occlusive pressure applied to the urethra or bladder neck sufficient to prevent urinary leakage.

  • Patent number: 8176788
Abstract: An ultrasonic inspection apparatus may include a chamber partly filled with water from a first portion of the chamber to a water-line disposed apart from a second portion of the chamber, and at least one transducer disposed apart from the water-line. The at least one transducer may emit ultrasonic signals through a portion of a part being inspected towards the water-line. The water-line may reflect the ultrasonic signals emitted from the at least one transducer off the water-line, back through a portion of a part being inspected, and back to the at least one transducer. In such manner, one or more portions of a complex-shaped part may be inspected.

  • Patent number: 8062205
Abstract: An implantable incontinence device and method provides for occluding the urethra in preventing urine leakage. The device includes an occluding member connected to a control mechanism. The occluding member is movable from a contracted (occlusive) condition to an expansive (non-occlusive) condition by activating and deactivating the control mechanism. A drug coating is disposed on a portion of the implantable incontinence device. The drug coating elutes a bioaffecting or pharmaceutical composition to minimize capsular tissue formation, so that prevention of urine leakage can be facilitated.

  • Patent number: 7926489
Abstract: A penile compression device for preventing urinary leaking and method for the same. First and second semi-rigid support arm are connected at opposing ends in their length direction. The support arms are biased towards each other in a resting position. The support arms are compressible from the length direction such that the support arms deform away from each other. An open region is formed between the support arms when the support arms are deformed, and enables penis insertion between the support arms. Releasing compression of the support arms enables the support arms to bias from a deformed position to a clamped position, whereby the support arms compress a male urethra to prevent urinary leakage. An absorbent sleeve may be affixed to the support arms to capture and hold any urine leakage.

  • Patent number: 7560028
Abstract: Disclosed is a method that achieves water desalination by utilizing and optimizing clathrate hydrate phenomena. Clathrate hydrates are crystalline compounds of gas and water that desalinate water by excluding salt molecules during crystallization. Contacting a hydrate forming gaseous species with water will spontaneously form hydrates at specific temperatures and pressures through the extraction of water molecules from the bulk phase followed by crystallite nucleation. Subsequent dissociation of pure hydrates yields fresh water and, if operated correctly, allows the hydrate-forming gas to be efficiently recycled into the process stream.
