  • Patent number: 5489128
Abstract: A latch assembly having an adjustable backset has a housing and a bolt having a length and being slidably disposed within said housing, said bolt assembly comprising a latch member, a draw bar, and a connector for connecting said latch member and said draw bar and for adjusting said latch member relative to said draw bar so as to adjust said length of said bolt assembly over a range including an extended length, a shortened length, and any length therebetween. The latch assembly may be used for any standard or non-standard backset within said range.

  • Patent number: 5440910
Abstract: A key adaptor includes a substantially rigid body member having structure for pivotable connection to a bow portion of a key so that the key is pivotable between a closed position, wherein the key is substantially aligned with the body member, and an open position wherein the key is pivoted to an angle with the body member so that the body serves as a handle for turning the key when the key is inserted into a lock. The structure for pivotable connection to the key provides a firm positioning of the key relative to the body member in a desired position.

  • Patent number: 5233851
Abstract: A lock is disclosed which includes a housing having an inside bore, a cylinder selected from a group consisting of interchangeable core cylinders and insert cylinders, the cylinder having an outer contour, the inside bore of the housing being at least as large at any point as the outer contour of the cylinder, and a device for adapting the inside bore of the housing to correspond to the outer contour of the cylinder. Also described is a transmission assembly mounted to the housing and cooperating with the cylinder to impart desired motion to a latch mechanism of the lock. An advantage of the lock is that it may accommodate distinctively different cylinder types with different form, fit and function.

  • Patent number: 5087090
Abstract: An inside operator for a lock having a spring biased bolt includes a shaft which can be immobilized, thus preventing longitudinal bolt motion, by applying force in the axial direction to the handle of the operator. The operator shaft is telescopic to ensure that the coupling of the operator shaft to the bolt is not interrupted as the operator is switched between operational modes.

  • Patent number: 4823575
Abstract: A cylinder lock system employs a key which has a pair of projections extending from opposing parallel edges of the key blade. The keyway of the lock has an enlarged slot portion for receiving the projections upon insertion of the key. One of the projections cams pins of an auxiliary pin stack to present a shear line between the pins to permit rotation of the key plug to an unlocked mode. The other projection is received in a groove formed in the shell and is engageable against a surface of the groove upon rotation of the key to retain the key within the keyway.
