A digital signal (that includes information such as addressing information) may be propagated through the group of driver integrated circuits. To manage thermal performance of the backlight, the backlight may include a thermally conductive layer and/or a heat sink structure. To increase the efficiency of the backlight, the backlight may include one or more reflective layers.

    Abstract: An electronic device such as a head-mounted device may have a display that is viewable by a user from eye boxes. The electronic device may have a gaze tracking system that monitors a user's eyes in the eye boxes to gather gaze direction information. The display may have a central portion and a peripheral portion. The peripheral portion may have a lower resolution than the central portion and may be used in displaying content that is viewable in a user's peripheral vision. During operation, control circuitry in the electronic device may adjust peripheral content on the peripheral portion to correct for parallax-induced mismatch between the peripheral content and central content on the central portion of the display. The control circuitry may also depower peripheral pixels that are determined to be unviewable based on the gaze direction. Diffusers may be used to hide seams between the central and peripheral display portions.

The elastomeric polymer material may form cavities that receive the electrical components. Components such as light-emitting diodes may be mounted to the flexible printed circuit substrates so that the light-emitting diodes are located in the cavities. Reflective sidewalls in the cavities may reflect light from the light-emitting diodes outwardly through a thinned portion of the band. Light-diffusing material in the cavities may be formed from clear polymer with light-scattering particles.

A flexible touch sensor panel can provide an additional touch sensitive surface for a user to activate functions on the wearable device without covering a touch screen of the wearable device. In some examples, the flexible touch sensor panels can include electrode connectors configured to electrically couple touch electrodes of the flexible touch sensor panel. In some examples, the electrode connectors can have a serpentine routing pattern configured to allow the touch electrodes to move closer together or farther apart while maintaining electrical coupling between the touch electrodes. In some examples, the touch electrodes can have gaps configured to allow light to pass through the gaps. In some examples, an LED panel can be formed below or one or more waveguide layers can be formed above the flexible touch sensor panel.

The display device may also include a capacitor that receives the ramp voltage signal via the DAC and a circuit that sends a control signal to a circuit component that causes the DAC to couple to the capacitor via one of the data lines for a duration of time that comprises a first time when the ramp voltage signal is below the data voltage and a second time when the ramp voltage signal is approximately equal to the data voltage. The capacitor is coupled to the DAC when the ramp voltage signal is greater than zero.

    Abstract: The disclosure describes procedures for dynamically employing a variable refresh rate at an LCD display of a consumer electronic device, such as a laptop computer, a tablet computer, a mobile phone, or a music player device. In some configurations, the consumer electronic device can include a host system portion, having one or more processors and a display system portion, having a timing controller, a buffer circuit, a display driver, and a display panel. The display system can receive image data and image control data from a GPU of the host system, evaluate the received image control data to determine a reduced refresh rate (RRR) for employing at the display panel, and then transition to the RRR, whenever practicable, to conserve power. In some scenarios, the transition to the RRR can be a transition from a LRR of 50 hertz or above to a RRR of 40 hertz or below.
