Patent number: 11303108Abstract: One example includes a relay device that is comprised of a galvanic isolation barrier, a protection control and power extractor, and an electronic switch. The galvanic isolation barrier is coupled to an input of the relay device and receives a switch control signal and outputs another switch control signal. The protection control and power extractor is coupled to an output of the galvanic isolation barrier. The protection control and power extractor extracts power from a power supply coupled to the relay device. The protection control and power extractor is responsive to the other switch control signal and generates a protection signal in response to a determination of an operating parameter of the relay device. The protection control and power extractor further outputs an electronic switch device signal based on the generated protection signal.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2020Date of Patent: April 12, 2022Assignee: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATEDInventors: Barry J. Male, Miroslav Oljaca, David W. Stout, Ajinder Singh

Patent number: 9652423Abstract: Controller area network (CAN) communications apparatus and methods are presented for CAN flexible data rate (CAN FD) communications in a mixed CAN network with CAN FD nodes and one or more non-FD CAN nodes in which a CAN FD node wishing to transmit CAN FD frames sends a first predefined message requesting the non-FD CAN nodes to disable their transmitters before transmitting the CAN FD frames, and thereafter sends a second predefined message or a predefined signal to return the non-FD CAN nodes to normal operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2014Date of Patent: May 16, 2017Assignee: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATEDInventors: Scott A. Patent number: 9484913Abstract: An LED input emulator to interface a signal source designed for use with an LED optocoupler, to capacitive or other galvanic isolation circuitry, emulating LED forward and reverse bias voltages. VR reverse blocking circuitry includes MP1 and MP2 PMOS transistors coupled to an emulator anode port, and to emulate LED reverse bias voltage. VF control circuitry includes a variable resistance (MP3) coupled between anode and cathode ports, and a current control circuit coupled to an output node, and to control current through the variable resistance to maintain a desired forward voltage at the output node. In an example embodiment, the VF control circuitry is implemented with an amplifier and a bandgap voltage reference circuit coupled to the output node, generating both reference and feedback voltages input to the amplifier to control the variable resistance.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2015Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Assignee: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATEDInventors: Shailendra K. Baranwal, David W. Stout, Abhijeeth A. Premanath

Publication number: 20150326223Abstract: An apparatus comprising an Opto-coupler using LED and photo transistor as a basis for the isolation is provided. An Input of the opto-coupler based isolator is an LED. The opto-coupler uses PMOS MP1 and MP2 which act as reverse blocking diode, and thus providing ?5V reverse bias breakdown voltage. Moreover, PMOS MP1 and MP2 act as switch for the forward input current and provides a conductive path between the ANODE and Supply node.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2015Publication date: November 12, 2015Inventors: Shailendra K. Patent number: 8375882Abstract: A system and method for ascertaining field position for the game of American football has first and second wheels, each being substantially planar and round. The first wheel is relatively smaller than the second wheel and the two are rotatably mounted coaxially with respect to each other to allow rotation. The wheels are marked with various notches, numbers, and arrows to allow quick and easy calculation of yards gained or lost on a given play in accordance with the described operation.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2010Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Inventor: David W. Patent number: 6335637Abstract: The protection circuit of the present invention addresses the problem of indeterminate logic levels caused by loss of one of the power supplies in a two-power-supply CMOS integrated circuit. The circuit of the present invention replaces the typical scheme of power supply sequencing to fix the problem. The circuit disclosed herein detects the state of the core voltage and disables the output drivers when the core voltage is detected as being off. The disabled drivers are put into a high impedance state, thereby eliminating the potential for damage and eliminating the need for power supply sequencing. The invention also protects against the sudden loss of the integrated circuit core voltage, VDD, power supply during normal operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2000Date of Patent: January 1, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Anthony Correale, Jr., Terry C.
