  • Patent number: 6602085
Abstract: A backshell adapter assembly includes an adapter body, a coupling nut and a one-piece shuttle mechanism. The one-piece shuttle mechanism is formed as a tubular member and is adapted to be received in a retaining groove on the adapter body. The one piece shuttle mechanism includes a thrust bushing and one or more concentrically formed spring arms that are adapted to provide axial loading in the direction of an electrical connector shell when the basketball adapter assembly is assembled to an electrical connector.

  • Patent number: 5211576
Abstract: A cable clamp relieves stress between a cable and a connector with which the cable is associated. The cable clamp includes a body defining a passage way through which a cable may pass and having threads. A strain relief clamp is position internal to the body for clamping a cable relative to the body when the cable is passed through the body. A clamp actuator assembly is threaded onto the threads of the body to actuate the strain relief clamp. Serrations are provided for inhibiting unthreading of the clamp actuator element. In an alternative embodiment of the cable clamp, the clamp actuator assembly may include a non-rotating element floating with respect to a clamp nut and engaging the strain relief clamp such that as the clamp nut is threaded onto the body, the clamp clamps the cable more tightly.

  • Patent number: 5082454
Abstract: A two-piece retaining ring assembly axially secures a coupling nut to a tubular sleeve and includes a C-shaped retaining ring and a keeper, both formed from a non-metallic composite material. An annular groove is formed on the inside surface of the coupling nut for receiving the retaining ring. The width of the gap defined between the ends of the retaining ring is such to allow the retaining ring to be pulled apart enough slipped over the annular shoulder on the tubular member and resilient enough to spring back to be received in an annular groove formed on the inside of the coupling nut. A keeper is received in an annular space between retaining ring and the tubular member. A tab, formed on the keeper, is received in the gap between the ends of the retaining ring. Anti-rotation means are also provided to restrict rotation of the coupling nut with respect to the backshell. One end of the tubular member is formed with an annular shoulder having ratchet teeth.

  • Patent number: 5007465
Abstract: A band finishing tool having a scissor-type mechanism utilizes a sliding pawl to hold one side of the buckle. The other side of the buckle is held along the edges of by buckle holding members to allow the free end of the tab to be folded over and engage the outside band diameter. The sliding pawl is mechanically coupled to the scissor-type mechanism. A rigid rollover member is mechanically coupled to the sliding pawl by way of a coupling spring. Initial squeezing of the scissor-type mechanism causes the sliding pawl to engage the buckle. Further squeezing of the scissor-type mechanism causes the rollover member to move laterally with respect to the pawl. This movement causes the tab to be folded over the buckle. The tool also includes a slot for prebending the leading edge of the tab at approximately a 45.degree. angle with respect to the band axis.

  • Patent number: 4996868
Abstract: A calibration device measures the maximum pull force developed by a banding tool while tightening a metal band around a tubular sleeve, such as a termination sleeve on an electrical connector housing. The calibration device includes a strain gauge assembly carried by a frame. One portion of the frame includes a releasable jaw assembly for securely capturing the band to allow the pull force of the tool to be measured. Disposed adjacent the releasable jaw assembly is a foot portion of the frame having a slot for receiving a removable nosepiece. The removable nosepiece is formed to the contour of the nosepiece of a particular banding tool. Since the nosepiece is removable, various nosepieces having contours for various banding tools can be utilized. The calibration device also includes a force release assembly for gradually releasing the force on the force sensing element to avoid damage thereto.

  • Patent number: 4934416
Abstract: A power driven banding tool utilizes, for example, a pneumatic motor, electric motor or other means of motive power for progressively driving the band through the tool. The tool is provided with a rotary drive mechanism which includes a knurled wheel and a plurality of spring loaded pinch rollers for gripping the band. The driving torque for the knurled wheel is provided by a worm gear assembly by way of an adjustable clutch. The worm gear assembly is operatively connected to a pneumatic or electric motor. The adjustable clutch allows the pull pressure to be calibrated to the desired limits. An Oldham type coupling is provided between the motor output shaft and the worm gear input shaft to overcome any axial misalignment. The tool also includes a handle operated rollover assembly for bending the band around the buckle to maintain the tension in the band so it can be cut off.
