  • Publication number: 20080267706
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, a system for removing a layer of a paved surface comprises a vehicle adapted to traverse a paved surface in a selected direction. The vehicle also comprises a milling drum with an axle connected to the vehicle, the drum being adapted to rotate around the axle substantially normal the selected direction. A moldboard is positioned rearward of the milling drum and also connected to the vehicle. A plurality of nozzles is disposed proximate a bottom end of the moldboard and is in communication with a fluid reservoir through a fluid pathway and the plurality of nozzles is adapted to move independent of the moldboard.

  • Patent number: 7424922
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention a tool string comprises a jack element substantially coaxial with an axis of rotation. The jack element is housed within a bore of the tool string and has a distal end extending beyond a working face of the tool string. A rotary valve is disposed within the bore of the tool string. The rotary valve has a first disc attached to a driving mechanism and a second disc axially aligned with and contacting the first disc along a flat surface. As the discs rotate relative to one another at least one port formed in the first disc aligns with another port in the second disc. Fluid passed through the ports is adapted to displace an element in mechanical communication with the jack element.

  • Publication number: 20070290544
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention, a pavement degradation machine has a motorized vehicle adapted to traverse a paved surface. At least one piston apparatus has a distal end and a proximal end, the proximal end adapted for attachment to an underside of the motorized vehicle and the distal end extending towards the paved surface and comprising a rotary bit. The piston apparatus has a shaft disposed within a sleeve. The sleeve is adapted for axial motion and the shaft is adapted for rotational motion independent of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 7223049
Abstract: An apparatus, system and method for directionally degrading a paved surface. A substantially cylindrical rotary tool may include cutting inserts embedded within its cylindrical surface. The tool may be rotated about a rotational axis extending from a top end of the tool to its cutting head and may contact a paved surface such that the tool degrades the surface in a direction substantially normal thereto. The tool may be mounted to a motorized vehicle and adapted for independent movement to limit degradation to an isolated area, extend degradation beyond the width of the motorized vehicle, and/or avoid obstacles in the pavement.

  • Publication number: 20070098496
Abstract: A pavement recycling machine is disclosed in one aspect of the invention as including a motorized vehicle to travel along a paved surface and having a direction of travel. A bank of substantially vertically oriented mill heads is connected to the motorized vehicle to break up the paved surface to create loose aggregate. These mill heads have axes of rotation that are substantially perpendicular to the paved surface. A controller is provided to control various operational parameters of the pavement recycling machine. These operational parameters may include, for example, the rotational speed and vertical height of the mill heads. A remote control device communicates with the controller to enable remote adjustment or monitoring of the operational parameters.

  • Publication number: 20070092336
Abstract: An apparatus for regulating a flow of pavement rejuvenation materials for deposit on a roadway is disclosed in one aspect of the invention as including a first channel is supported by a pavement recycling machine and is in communication with a supply of pavement rejuvenation materials; a second channel slideably coupled to the first channel, the pavement rejuvenation materials adapted to flow through the first and second channels; and a hardened tip coupled to the second channel. The apparatus may also have a seat coupled to one of the channels; and a blocking element coupled to the other of the channels. Upon sliding the first channel with respect to the second channel, the blocking element contacts the seat, thereby impeding the flow of pavement rejuvenation materials flowing through the channels.
