  • Publication number: 20240076476
Abstract: Disclosed is a plasticized cellulose ester composition. The plasticized cellulose ester composition of the present invention includes at least one cellulose ester; a plasticizer system including one or more aliphatic plasticizers; and a benzotriazole ultraviolet absorber. A flooring article with at least one layer formed from the composition is also described.

Inventors: Michael Eugene Donelson, Robert Erik Young, David Wayne Compton, Everett Bryston Shepard
  • Patent number: 11816964
Abstract: This invention relates to cellulose ester compositions cable of being calendered. The invention also relates to calendered films or sheets comprising the cellulose ester compositions and processes for calendering the cellulose compositions.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 14, 2023
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company
Inventors: David Wayne Compton, Michael Eugene Donelson, James Collins Maine, Marcus David Shelby, Freddie Wayne Williams, Robert Erik Young
  • Patent number: 11697726
Abstract: The application discloses cellulose ester compositions comprising two or more miscible blends of cellulose ester each comprising a plurality of propionyl substituents having tunable rheology and physical properties not achievable by any one of the cellulose esters alone. These cellulose ester compositions can be further processed, with or without other materials such as plasticizers, flame retardants, and blowing agents, and converted into articles. These cellulose ester compositions have higher modulus and have low to no butyryl/butyric acid content relative to cellulose acetate butyrate (“CAB”) cellulose ester compositions made from CABs having a butyryl content of greater than 30 wt %.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 9, 2017
Date of Patent: July 11, 2023
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company

  • Publication number: 20220363857
Abstract: Cellulose ester compositions for expanded foam applications are provided. Specifically, production of melt processed cellulose esters has historically been limited to standard extrusion, molding and solvent casting methods. A combination of cellulose ester formulation and selected blowing agents have been found to produce articles of good density and good dimensional stability for an expanded foam process using conventional polystyrene processing equipment.
