The singlet oxygen generators described herein have enhanced singlet oxygen generation due to aromatic moieties teed to the molecules, said aromatic moieties absorbing ultra violet radiation then re-emitting the radiation as fluorescence at a wavelength absorbable by the singlet oxygen producing photosensitizer unit. The increase in the number of photons having an absorbable wavelength provides an increase in the production of singlet oxygen.
