Abstract: This apparatus and method for collection of solar energy is particularly adaptable for being formed as a part of or integrated into an upright or vertical surface of a building or structure. The apparatus involves a closed compartment, including an exterior transparent cover, within which are located energy receiving elements, each having an energy receiving surface oriented to efficiently receive solar energy. The apparatus may also include an interior transparent cover and reflective surfaces for further enhancing the characteristics of the collector, and the interior of the apparatus may be evacuated. The method may include the steps of providing a plurality of radiant energy receiving elements, each having an energy receiving surface at the exterior vertical surface of the building, and orienting the energy receiving surface at an angle for efficiently receiving radiant energy.
