  • Patent number: 11101615
Abstract: Apparatus for modelocking a fiber laser cavity includes two variable retarder assemblies and a polarizing element. The variable retarder assemblies each have two electronically addressable elements and one fixed element. The first variable retarder assembly prepares a polarization state suitable for NPE modelocking to be launched into the fiber, and the second variable retarder assembly controls the polarization state after exiting the fiber, before being incident on the polarizing element. A control system controls the electronically addressable phase retarders in order to create and modify conditions for modelocking the fiber laser.

  • Publication number: 20100059078
Abstract: A method and means for pinning back protruding or prominent ears including a kit comprising of double-sided adhesive strips, a bottle of liquid adhesive enhancer, and a bottle of liquid adhesive remover or dissolver. The liquid adhesive enhancer is applied to the back of the ear and skin on the scalp adjacent to the back of the ear. The adhesive strips are cut to size, the backing paper is removed from the strips, and the strips are attached to either the back of the ear or the skin of the scalp. The ear is then pressed towards the head and the adhesive holds the ear in a place closer to the head. When finished, the ear is pulled away, the strips removed, and the liquid adhesive remover is applied to remove any adhesive that may have stuck to the skin.

  • Publication number: 20060241409
Abstract: A system and a method are provided for estimating the average dielectric properties of a plurality of regions in space. The application of this technique is illustrated for determining the average properties of breast tissue. The knowledge of average properties is important when UWB microwave radar signal processing algorithms are used for tumor detection and localization. The method is an extension of a time-domain inverse scattering algorithm based on the finite-difference time-domain method. A hybrid conjugate gradient optimization is used to minimize a cost function defined between a measured and a calculated total electromagnetic field at a series of antennas. The output of the method is an average set of electromagnetic material parameters that describe specific regions of interest in either a non-dispersive heterogeneous medium or a dispersive heterogeneous medium.

  • Patent number: 6353315
Abstract: A byte wide flaw scan interface is used to identify an characterize flaws in a disk medium. In one embodiment, the associated disk drive (100) includes head electronics (120) associated with a disk drive controller (122) via an NRZ interface (127). The NRZ interface (127) is operative for transmitting flaw information for a particular disk address via 8 predefined bit lines. The bit lines have separate definitions for user data sector addresses and servo wedge addresses. By using this byte wide interface, media flaws of various types can be identified and characterized based on a single pass of the transducer head over the disk surface thereby shortening testing times.
