Publication number: 20220401627Abstract: A tendon/ligament repair implant for treatment of tears or lesions of tendons and ligaments, including capsular reconstruction, and compositions for delivering calcium and/or phosphate ions in combination with a collagen solution that can be placed between soft tissue and bone to facilitate healing of the soft tissue-bone interface are provided. The implant may incorporate features of rapid deployment and fixation by arthroscopic means that complement current procedures; tensile properties that result in desired sharing of anatomical load between the implant and native tendon during rehabilitation, or, in situations where the native tissue cannot be repaired tensile properties that provide for substitution of the native tissue selected porosity and longitudinal pathways for tissue in-growth; and may include an at least partially bioabsorbable construction to provide transfer of additional load to new tendon-like tissue and native tendon over time.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2022Publication date: December 22, 2022Applicants: Smith & Nephew, Inc., Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics AG, Smith & Nephew Asia Pacific Pte. Publication number: 20220399599Abstract: The disclosure provides a flexible and rechargeable battery unit that is configured to a free-form shape, and/or configured to include uneven thickness, thereby providing multi-axial coverage and/or enhanced bendability and storage capacity. The battery unit and method for fabricating the battery unit includes cathode and anode substrates configured in a free-form shape, a separator layer made from a nanofiber material for enclosing either the cathode substrate or the anode substrate to form an enclosed cathode substrate or enclose anode substrate, with the enclosed cathode substrate being overlapped with the anode substrate, or the enclosed anode substrate being overlapped with the cathode substrate to form a stacked battery structure, which can be further configured to form a notched battery structure. The stacked battery structure or the notched battery structure, which can be expanded, is subsequently injected with an electrolyte and closed using a packaging layer to form a battery pouch structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2021Publication date: December 15, 2022Inventor: Man Yung David YEUNG

Publication number: 20200176726Abstract: The invention provides a flexible battery comprising a flexible battery unit, at least one protective layer formed by a flexible material, and an enclosure defining an interior space. The at least one protective layer is formed on one side of the battery unit to define a stack structure which is placed hermetically inside the interior space of the enclosure. The at least one protective layer is configured to give a uniform curvature in a bending direction along which the battery is bent. The at least one protective layer is arranged in such a way to shield the battery unit from impacts of the enclosure caused by deformation and/or bending of the battery.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2019Publication date: June 4, 2020Inventors: Ching Chung POON, Man Yung David YEUNG

Patent number: 8218434Abstract: Described is a system and method of protection switching in an Ethernet network. First and second point-to-point Ethernet links are established to data equipment. Identical streams of Ethernet traffic are received at a first Ethernet port and at a second Ethernet port. The stream of Ethernet traffic being received at the first Ethernet port is transmitted to the data equipment over the first point-to-point Ethernet link, while the second Ethernet port is prevented from transmitting the stream of Ethernet traffic received at the second Ethernet port. During a protection switch, transmission of Ethernet traffic ceases over the first point-to-point Ethernet link, and commences over the second point-to-point Ethernet link, the second Ethernet port transmitting the stream of Ethernet traffic being received at the second Ethernet port to the data equipment.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2005Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: Ciena CorporationInventors: Christopher Brown, David Yeung, Charlie Kawwas, Craig Suitor, Brodie Gage

Publication number: 20060013133Abstract: A packet-aware time division multiplexing (TDM) switch includes one or more ingress ports, one or more egress ports, a TDM switching fabric, and a bandwidth manager. Ingress ports are capable of distinguishing packets. The TDM switching fabric has persistent connections which provide connectivity between each ingress port and each egress port. Packets received at an ingress port are transmitted to one or more egress ports using TDM over one or more switching fabric connections. The congestion of each connection is monitored, and the capacity of the connection may be automatically adjusted based on the monitored congestion. Congestion may be indicated by a utilization of the connection or by a degree to which a buffer for storing packets to be sent over the connection is filled. Statistical multiplexing may be used at ingress ports and/or egress ports in order to eliminate idle packets. The utilization of the switch for data traffic may thus be improved over conventional TDM switches.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 16, 2004Publication date: January 19, 2006Inventors: Wang-Hsin Peng, Craig Suitor, Louis Pare, Wai-Chau Hui, David Yeung
