    Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for early termination of decoding attempts, including decoding attempts associated with physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidates that are encoded using a rateless code. In some aspects, a transmitting device may encode a message using a rateless code associated with a cumulative encoding of various portions of the message, and using a device identifier or group identifier as an input to the encoding. Similarly, a receiving device may receive an encoded signal over candidate resources and may attempt to decode the signal in accordance with the rateless code and using a device identifier or a group identifier as an input to the decoding. As such, intended or non-intended receiving device may be able to evaluate whether to proceed with a decoding attempt or to terminate a decoding attempt at a relatively early stage.

Generally, the described techniques provide for transmitting data signaling via a first set of subcarriers (e.g., data subcarriers) at a same transmit power as PTRS transmissions via a second set of subcarriers (e.g., PTRS subcarriers) via a first transmission layer. Additionally, the described techniques provide for transmitting data signaling via the first set of subcarriers and the second set of subcarriers via a second transmission layer. That is, a wireless device may transmit data signaling via the second transmission layer at subcarriers used for PTRS transmissions via the first transmission layer while maintaining an average energy across the first transmission layer and the second transmission layer. In some examples, a receiving device may estimate the phase noise error for each transmission layer using one or more PTRS transmissions or using signaling from each transmission layer.

A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, a configuration indicating a set of resources for a reference signal to track an in-phase and quadrature-phase imbalance of the UE. The set of resources may include a first subset of resources for transmitting the reference signal and a second subset of resources for a mirror image signal that is generated during upconversion of the reference signal. The UE may upconvert the reference signal to a set of subcarriers corresponding to the first subset of resources and transmit the upconverted reference signal on the first subset of resources. The base station may receive the reference signal and the mirror image signal and determine a signal adjustment for communications with the UE based on the received reference signal and the received mirror image signal.

In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may monitor sets of decoding candidates over a search space in each monitoring occasion to detect downlink control transmissions. Such a monitoring process may be resource intensive. To reduce the processing power involved in monitoring the control channel, a UE may measure resources associated with the downlink control channel to obtain a quality metric. The UE may compare the quality metric to one or more thresholds and may perform a decoding process on a set of configured decoding candidates for the downlink control channel based on the comparing. In some cases, if the channel quality is relatively good, the UE may perform a list decoding process using a list size less than a maximum list size or may perform partial data tone processing to reduce the processing complexity for some of the decoding candidates.

A receiving device may receive the data transmission and may identify that the one or more second signals include content other than data of the data transmission. The receiving device may decode the first signals in order to identify the first portion and the configuration in order to identify the second portion. The receiving device may refrain from decoding the one or more second signals based on the identifying.
