Abstract: An air inlet system for an internal combustion engine includes an air inlet duct for drawing charge air into a charge air processor, and an intake manifold system leading from the charge air processor to the power cylinders of the engine. A resonator which suppresses pressure pulses within the inlet duct is mounted to the intake manifold system, but fluidically connected to the air inlet duct, and not to the intake manifold system.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a point-of-purchase (POP) spectrophotometer for open-viewing of a color sample. The POP spectrophotometer includes a housing assembly containing an illumination optical system and an imaging optical system in desired orientation. Also provided is at least one of a second illumination optical system, a sheen detection system, and a camera system. The housing assembly includes a chassis in secure arrangement with a plurality of supports that define a target plane having a target location and that space the chassis therefrom. The chassis is configured to position the illumination, imaging, sheen detection, and/or camera systems in desired orientations relative to the target location and each other. The POP spectrophotometer can include an alignment device and/or targeting optics for facilitating user-identification of the target location, and means can be provided to enhance insensitivity to ambient light and/or depth variation of the color sample.

Use of a such a cutting stream to form the holes facilitates the cutting of holes 45, 145, 245, 345, 445, 545, 645, 646 having non-circular, and preferably tesselatory, cross sections as well as holes 45, 145, 245, 345, 445, 545, 645, 646 extending at acute angles with respect to an axis 20 of the bedplate.

Abstract: A system and method for using a snapshot as a data source is described. In some cases, the system stores a snapshot and an associated data structure or index to storage media to create a secondary copy of a volume of data. In some cases, the associated index includes application specific data about a file system or other application that created the data to identify the location of the data. The associated index may include three entries, and may be used to facilitate the recovery of data via the snapshot.

Abstract: A mechanism is disclosed for performing I/O operations using queue banks within a data processing system that supports multiple processing partitions. A queue bank is a re-useable area of memory allocated for performing I/O operations. All memory locking and address-translation functions are generally performed only once for a queue bank to reduce system overhead. After a queue bank has been used to perform an I/O operation, some processing is performed to make it available for re-use. This processing determines whether the queue bank contains memory that is being removed from a current processing partition. If so, a delay is imposed so that the queue bank is not made available for immediate re-use. This creates a window of time wherein all queue banks that contain the affected memory are inactive, thereby allowing the affected memory to be removed from the partition without halting on-going I/O activity.

Abstract: The technology described herein provides a portable, foldable two-legged stool having a support legs assembly having two parallel support legs secured in a support frame having at least one horizontal brace and a seat assembly hingedly connected to a top of each of the support legs with a pivotal hinge assembly such that the stool is foldable for transport and is extendable for use as a two-legged stool when a rear edge of the seat assembly is placed against a generally vertical planar surface. This technology also provides a third leg assembly for selective use by an operator to add a third leg when no vertical planar surface is available upon which to support the rear edge of the seat assembly stool.

Abstract: An electrically operated hydraulic valve comprises a valve assembly that provides a common valve passageway, an inlet port, an outlet port and a return port connected to the passageway and an axially movable valve device which allows in a first position fluid flow between the outlet port and the return port while closing the inlet and in a second position, axially displaced from the first position, fluid flow between the inlet port and the outlet port while closing the return port. A spring provides a restoring force urging the valve device to its first position. An electrically operated actuator coupled to the valve device comprises a permanent magnet and a cooperating electrical coil having an associated magnetic core, one or other of the magnet and the coil constituting a stator and the other constituting an armature which is coupled to the valve device to move it from the first position to the second position.

Abstract: The determination of wax crystal particle size and population is used to monitor the performance of wax crystallizers used in lubricant oil processing using solvent dewaxing. The wax crystal particle size is monitored using online measurements. The information obtained from on-line monitoring is then used to control crystallization in the dewaxing equipment in order to optimize performance of the dewaxing units.

Abstract: An end effector for a surgical cutting and stapling instrument. In various embodiments, the end effector may include an elongate channel that is configured to support a staple cartridge therein and which is also operably coupled to a surgical cutting and stapling instrument. An anvil may be movably supported relative to the elongate channel for selective movement between an open position and a closed position wherein tissue is clamped between the anvil and a staple cartridge supported within the elongate channel in response to a closing motion applied thereto from the surgical cutting and stapling instrument. At least one light source may be provided on at least one of the staple cartridge and the elongate channel. The light sources may interface with the anvil to provide a visual indication viewable through a portion of the anvil to indicate a position of tissue clamped between the anvil and the staple cartridge.

Abstract: A lighting module comprising a base panel and a plurality of light-emitting diode (LED) chips attached directly to the base panel. The LED chips are in electrical communication with conductive traces on the base panel, which deliver a current to the LED chips. Various embodiments of this generally described lighting module are also presented. Additionally, methods of preparing such a lighting module, and system components of the lighting module are presented.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments relate to an apparatus and a method for re-synthesizing signals. The apparatus includes a receiver for receiving a plurality of digitally multiplexed signals, each digitally multiplexed signal associated with a different physical transmission channel, and for simultaneously recovering from at least two of the digital multiplexes a plurality of bit streams. The apparatus also includes a transmitter for inserting the plurality of bit streams into different digital multiplexes and for modulating the different digital multiplexes for transmission on different transmission channels. The method involves receiving a first signal having a plurality of different program streams in different frequency channels, selecting a set of program streams from the plurality of different frequency channels, combining the set of program streams to form a second signal, and transmitting the second signal.

Abstract: A fire protection system comprising at least one sprinkler, a source of pressurized water, a piping network connecting at least one sprinkler to the source of pressurized water, and a nitrogen generator coupled to the sprinkler system. The nitrogen generator may be a nitrogen membrane system or a nitrogen pressure swing adsorption system. The present systems and methods reduce or nearly eliminate corrosion that typically affects conventional fire protection systems, such as caused by oxygen and microbial systems, which can deteriorate or compromise function. Initial, repeated, or continuous displacement of oxygen with nitrogen in the fire protection system significantly reduces or eliminates corrosion.

Abstract: Multiple trusted platform modules within a data processing system are used in a redundant manner that provides a reliable mechanism for securely storing secret data at rest that is used to bootstrap a system trusted platform module. A hypervisor requests each trusted platform module to encrypt a copy of the secret data, thereby generating multiple versions of encrypted secret data values, which are then stored within a non-volatile memory within the trusted platform. At some later point in time, the encrypted secret data values are retrieved, decrypted by the trusted platform module that performed the previous encryption, and then compared to each other. If any of the decrypted values do not match a quorum of values from the comparison operation, then a corresponding trusted platform module for a non-matching decrypted value is designated as defective because it has not been able to correctly decrypt a value that it previously encrypted.

Abstract: A thermal management system for an embedded environment is described. The thermal management system includes a pleumo-jet that has at least one wall defining a chamber, at least one piezoelectric device on the at least one wall, and a compliant material within the at least one wall and encompassing the chamber. The compliant material has at least one opening providing fluid communication between said chamber and the embedded environment. A cooling system is also described. A method for making a pleumo-jet is also described.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of combating pest, which method comprises contacting said pest or their food supply, habitat, breeding ground or their locus with a 3-pyridyl compound of the formula (I). In formula (I) n is 1 or 2, y is 0 or 1 and X, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are as defined in the claims and in the specification. The invention also relates to novel 3-pyridyl compounds which are useful for combating animal pests, in particular insects and to pesticidal composition, which comprises at least one 3-pyridyl compound and an agriculturally acceptable carrier.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for augmenting the GNSS RTK surveying system with ground-based ranging transceivers, such as ultra wideband (UWB) Radio Frequency (RF) transceivers. A system embodiment includes a plurality UWB reference ranging transceivers, a movable UWB ranging transceiver, and at least one GNSS RTK receiver. A method includes identifying the surveyed area and placing one or more reference ranging transceivers in the locations proximate to the identified surveyed area. A position of such reference ranging transceivers may be determined using a GNSS receiver. A movable ranging transceiver may be provided in the surveyed area which is configured conduct ranging measurements. GNSS satellite measurements and UWB ranging measurements may be combined to estimate the position of the surveying ranging transceiver. An estimate for the bias and scale factor states for UWB range pairs may be undertaken in order to provide improved position estimation.

Abstract: This invention discloses a method for displaying advertisements transmitted to a user unit, the method includes receiving, at the user unit, at least one advertisement tagged with a delay tag indicating whether display of the at least one advertisement can be delayed and only if the delay tag allows delaying display of the at least one advertisement, storing the at least one advertisement at the user unit, retrieving the at least one advertisement and displaying the at least one advertisement. A billing system for reporting a commercial broadcast to a multiplicity of users is also disclosed.
