  • Patent number: 9605540
Abstract: A radial inflow turbine may include a wheel, a first set of nozzle vanes surrounding the wheel and a second set of nozzle vanes surrounding the wheel. A first circumferential spacing between two adjacent nozzle vanes of the first set may differ from a second circumferential spacing between another two of the nozzle vanes of the first set.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 20, 2013
Date of Patent: March 28, 2017
    Assignee: HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.

  • Patent number: 8789656
Abstract: A system for lubricating a remote bearing in rotating machinery is disclosed. An aerator is coupled on an end of a shaft distally from a gearbox and on a far side of an obstruction coupled to the shaft. Oil is carried centrifugally along an inner diameter wall of the shaft while air is carried along a central axis of the shaft. The aerator may include an axial groove for receiving oil from the inner diameter wall of the shaft. The aerator may further include a radial passage for carrying air into the oil to provide a misted lubricant that may be provided into the remote bearing.

  • Publication number: 20100117473
Abstract: A rotor assembly for an electric motor having at least one gas vent allowing for the release of gases from within an enclosed portion is provided. The rotor assembly comprises a rotor shaft with at least one magnet longitudinally extending a portion of an outer surface thereof in an axial direction and being retained therewith. A non-magnetic wedge spacer may be positioned between each of a plurality of magnets and a cylindrical sleeve may be positioned about the at least one magnet. An end cap or stub shaft is adhered or mechanically held to or within each end of the cylindrical sleeve adjacent the at least one magnet forming an enclosed portion of the rotor assembly. At least one vent hole, channel, or bevel provides a gas flow through passage in flow communication with the enclosed portion and an environment outside of the enclosed portion of the rotor assembly.

  • Patent number: 6066898
Abstract: A microturbine power generating system includes a combustor and a gas compressor that provides a flow of natural gas to a combustor. The flow of natural gas is regulated by varying the speed of the gas compressor to maintain gas compressor discharge pressure at a set point. The system further includes a turbine and an electrical generator that is driven by the turbine during a run mode of operation. A rectifier and a main inverter convert an output of the electrical generator into fixed frequency ac power during the run mode. A secondary inverter operates an electric motor of the gas compressor at the variables speeds during the run mode. During a startup mode, however, the main inverter operates the gas compressor motor, and the secondary inverter operates the electrical generator as a starter motor.
