Abstract: Wicks include a sheet, including wood, a wood-like substance, and/or a cellulose fiber, and an engraved booster region that is a region at a surface of the sheet where material of the sheet has been removed. Material may be removed by laser engraving. A ratio of the width of the engraved booster region to the width of the sheet may be 1:3 to 1:8. A width of the engraved booster region may be 0.075 to 0.175 inches. Methods for manufacturing wicks include laser engraving a planar workpiece to remove material from a surface of the workpiece forming engraved booster regions, and laser cutting the workpiece to form sheets including an engraved booster region.

Abstract: A wick includes a sheet of wick material. The wick has a height dimension, a width dimension, and a thickness dimension. The height dimension and the width dimension are greater than the thickness dimension. The height dimension extends from the top of the wick to the bottom of the wick as the wick is oriented when provided in a candle. The width dimension and the thickness dimension are perpendicular to the height dimension. The sheet of wick material may be dyed, provided with a visible pattern and/or provided with a plurality of cut-out portions.

The lamp includes a body that has an open upper end and that defines a chamber for carrying a combustible liquid. The wick may be positioned between first and second plates arranged in a spaced, confronting relationship to enhance capillary action or may be wrapped about a rigid plate. When lit, the lamp provides a unique flame formation. Optionally, the lamp may include scented oil and a conductive element to promote the release of fragrance upon heating, and the wick can be configured free of material having a high heat conductivity.
