Patent number: 8695385Abstract: A safe for providing security and storage of personal items. The safe includes a housing, a door, a user operable locking mechanism and a user operable release mechanism. The door can be opened only upon both proper manipulation of the user operable locking mechanism and proper manipulation of the user operable release mechanism. The user operable release mechanism is disposed to reduce the risk of theft of the contents of the safe by unauthorized attempts to manipulate the release mechanism. The safe may include a mounting arrangement for mounting the housing to a structure to reduce the risk of theft of the safe.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2010Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Master Lock Company LLCInventors: Glenn P. Meekma, Dean D. Hacker

Patent number: 8375751Abstract: A locking arrangement includes a latch assembly, a locking mechanism, and a user operable opening member. The locking mechanism holds the latch assembly in a latching position when the locking mechanism is in a locked condition and allows the latch assembly to move to an unlatching position when the locking mechanism is in an unlocked condition. The opening member is movable from a normal position to an opening position. When the locking mechanism is in the unlocked condition, movement of the opening member to the opening position moves the latch assembly from the latching position to the unlatching position. The opening member is operatively connected to the latch assembly by a compressible member, such that when the locking mechanism is in the locked condition, movement of the opening member to the opening position compresses the compressible member without moving the latch assembly out of the latching position.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2010Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: Master Lock Company LLCInventor: Dean D. Patent number: 8056377Abstract: A portable safe (10) includes a safe body (15) and cover (20) that are selectively coupled with a locking mechanism (32). The safe cover (20) is permanently affixed to a tether (27) having a loop (29) at one end that is sized to allow the safe cover (20) to pass through but does not admit the safe body (15). Thus, the safe cover (20) can be installed on a fixed object by looping the tether (27) around the object, passing the safe cover (20) through the loop (29), and cinching the cover (20) to the fixed object. The safe body (15) can then be locked to the safe cover (20).Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2007Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Master Lock Company LLCInventor: Dean D. Hacker

Publication number: 20100180804Abstract: A cash box for storing paper notes and coins is disclosed. In one embodiment, the cash box includes a housing having a base and four side walls, a lid fixed to the housing and movable between opened and closed positions to restrict access to a tray within an upper cavity of the housing, a drawer movable between a closed position within a lower cavity of the housing and an opened position at least partially extending from the housing. A locking mechanism may prohibit access to the tray when locking the lid in a closed position. A coin storage holder may be included which is detachably engaged to one of the four side walls.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 11, 2009Publication date: July 22, 2010Applicant: MASTER LOCK COMPANY LLCInventors: Scott Czarnecki, Dean D. Patent number: 7712343Abstract: A deadbolt mechanism including a lock out mechanism that functions to disable the operation of the deadbolt from at least one side of the deadbolt mechanism. The deadbolt mechanism includes a deadbolt, key cylinder, housing, turn knob and a shaft that connects the key cylinder and turn knob. To place the deadbolt mechanism in lock out mode, a release mechanism is actuated and the turn knob is pulled outward away from the door. By pulling the knob outward, the shaft engages a portion of the housing which prevents rotation of the shaft and thereby prevents movement of the deadbolt from the lock-out position.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2005Date of Patent: May 11, 2010Assignee: Master Lock Company LLCInventors: Jerry Smith, Mike Enslow, Dean D. Patent number: 7516631Abstract: A safe includes a housing, a door and a locking mechanism. The housing includes a lock interface disposed on an external surface of the housing. The housing defines an internal cavity in communication with an opening of the housing. The door is configured to be assembled with the opening of the housing. The door includes first and second shackle legs configured to extend into the housing when the door is assembled with the housing. The locking mechanism is disposed within the housing and includes at least one locking member configured to lockingly engage the first and second shackle legs when the door is assembled with the housing. When the door is assembled with the housing, proper manipulation of the lock interface disengages the at least one locking member from the first and second shackle legs, thereby allowing the door to be removed from the housing.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2007Date of Patent: April 14, 2009Assignee: Master Lock Company LLCInventors: Dean D. Hacker, Steven Hedlund, Zachery Nave, John Weber
