  • Patent number: 6473632
Abstract: A method for operating a spectrophotometric instrument of the type for measuring the oxygenation state of hemoglobin in tissue. The method includes the use of stored hemoglobin concentration relationship data characterizing the relationship between second derivative absorbance values at a hemoglobin-absorbing wavelength and hemoglobin concentration in a tissue as a function of hemoglobin oxygenation state. Data representative of a second derivative absorbance value of tissue being analyzed is received. The hemoglobin oxygenation state of the tissue is determined as a function of the second derivative absorbance value. The hemoglobin concentration in the tissue is then determined as a function of the hemoglobin concentration relationship data, the second derivative absorbance value and the hemoglobin oxygenation state. The accuracy of the hemoglobin oxygenation state can be determined as a function of the hemoglobin concentration value.

  • Patent number: 5879294
Abstract: A measurement system and method for measuring a relative concentration of a first form of a chromophore having a first form and a second form. The method comprises irradiating a tissue sample with light at a plurality of wavelengths within a wavelength range within which the first and second forms of the chromophore provide an overlapping spectral response. A detector is provided that detects spectral data emitted from the tissue. Furthermore, the method comprises determining a first and a second 2d derivative spectrum value, at first and second wavelengths, respectively, within said wavelength range at which the first 2d derivative spectrum value varies with the relative concentration of the first form of the chromophore. A scaled, 2d derivative spectrum value is derived from the first and second 2d derivative spectrum values. A memory stores a correlation which provides the relative chromophore concentration as a function of the scaled, 2d derivative spectrum value.

  • Patent number: 5864445
Abstract: An integrated lead disk drive suspension including a load beam and one or more conductive leads. The load beam has a mounting region on a proximal end, a head bonding platform on a distal end, and one or more spring regions connecting the head bonding platform to the mounting region. The conductive leads are integrated with and insulated from the load beam by an adhesive dielectric layer, and extend between the head bonding platform and the mounting region. The leads are adapted to reduce mechanical effects of the leads and/or dielectric layer on spring characteristics of the spring regions. One embodiment of the leads includes at least a first compensating portion which extends off the load beam and traverses a nonlinear path around at least a portion of one or more of the spring regions. In another embodiment the portions of the conductive leads extending between the distal end of the load beam and the head bonding platform are substantially free from the dielectric layer.

  • Patent number: 5857723
Abstract: A spark plug wire puller is described which is actuated by a user squeezing a trigger biased against a handle of the tool which causes two jaw members to come together at gripping ends thereof to squeeze a wire or boot. As the user squeezes the trigger and pulls on the tool, the jaws grip the wire or boot and remove it from the spark plug. The invention is advantageous because it does not rely on a scissors action and it grips the boot in such a way so as not to damage it during the removal process.

  • Patent number: 5844751
Abstract: Laminate structures for attachment to a head suspension assembly in a hard disk drive. The laminate structures include a spring metal layer, a conductive layer, and an intermediate insulator/adhesive layer. The conductive layer can act as an interconnect assembly, as a gimbal, and as a spring region. The method of manufacture of the laminate structures incorporates manufacture of an interconnect assembly into the manufacture of spring structures such as a load beam or a gimbal. The laminate structures are manufactured by etching the layers from the outside in, using other layers as etching masks. Unique configurations are possible where either or both metal layers can be discontinuous, thanks to the manufacturing support of the second layer. The second layer can also be shaped into a plurality of panels, thus freeing the metal layers to act as the spring elements.

  • Patent number: 5572143
Abstract: A hand held electrical circuit testing for use by technicians to determine circuit conditions such as, whether a duty cycle is present or whether constant voltage is present. The invention makes use of three visual indicating means within a clear body portion of the device which reveal a lighting pattern that will provide an experienced technician with information to determine the circuit condition.

  • Patent number: 5150610
Abstract: In an auxiliary starter switch device, a guard for the auxiliary switch actuator and a small warning lamp and lens are combined in such a way that the guard itself contributes to the indicator warning. The guard is formed of a transparent or translucent material, and the lamp and lens (or an equivalent LED) is mounted in optically close-coupled arrangement with the guard. When the lamp is energized, the guard itself is substantially illuminated to expand the warning light area.
