  • Publication number: 20240100902
Abstract: A suspension system configured to exhibit low variance in vehicle ride frequency over a large range of vehicle loads. The suspension system includes a strut having a cylinder and a piston configured to reciprocate in the cylinder. The suspension system also includes a vessel coupled to the strut, and a valve in an interior chamber of the vessel. The valve divides the interior chamber into a first liquid volume and a second liquid volume. The suspension system also includes a hydraulic accumulator having a volume and a liquid volume. The suspension system further includes a compressible liquid in the cylinder, the first liquid volume in the vessel, and the second liquid volume in the vessel, and a spring element in the volume of the hydraulic accumulator.

  • Patent number: 6783137
Abstract: A pivotal connection includes a pin through a bore in a carrier having an annular flange and annular groove at opposite ends, and opposing annular bearings having relative rotatable components fitted around the pin within the bore and abutting opposite sides of an annular member in the bore such that the pin is rotatable relative to the carrier. One bearing abuts a side of the flange and the other bearing is spaced from the groove so as to define an annular gap extending from the groove to the other bearing. The pivotal connection also includes a retainer member disposed in the groove and projecting therefrom and spaced by the gap from the other bearing and a series of shims and spacer positioned around the pin between the retainer member and other bearing so as to fill the gap to impose a predetermined preload on the bearings causing them to clamp therebetween the annular member in the carrier bore.

  • Patent number: 6176501
Abstract: An alignment device for adjusting the camber and caster angles of a wheel in an independent front suspension. The wheel is supported on a knuckle assembly which is pivotally connected to upper and lower control arms which are pivotally connected to the vehicle frame. The control arms include bushings received in control arm mounting cylinders which are located between mounting brackets extending from the vehicle frame. Mounting bracket holes at each end of the bushing bore are aligned and, after locating an alignment device eccentric boss at the bracket holes, a mounting bolt is placed through holes in the eccentric boss and through the bushing bore thereby pivotally securing the control arm mounting cylinder. The eccentric boss hole extends through and is axially offset from a circular portion which is received within the mounting bracket hole.

  • Patent number: 6158750
Abstract: A lift axle assembly for supporting an auxiliary axle and wheels and selectively moving the auxiliary axle between in use and storage positions. The auxiliary axle is supported using two sets of upper and lower support arms pivotally connected between saddles attached to the axle and support hangers which are attached to the vehicle. Lift air springs selectively push the upper support arms vertically upwardly for rotating the support arms and placing the auxiliary axle in the storage position. The pivotal connections of the lower support arm as well as the pivotal connection of the upper support arm to the support hanger are of a bushing type allowing both rotational motion about the axis of rotation and coning for allowing twisting of the support arms about their longitudinal axes.
