  • Patent number: 6996167
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for operating a secondary diagnostic channel on a modem. The present invention is directed to the transmission of data on a previously defined UI frame. In this manner, various pieces of information may be sent over the secondary logic channel. The present application also discloses the use of a wild card request that allows the sending of multiple pieces of unrelated data at one time, through the use of a special format. The present application also discloses the use pseudo-unique call identification information that can be used to diagnose and prevent problems in various data connections. Modems can be configured to refer to information stored for previous connections to diagnose problems that may have occurred in the previous connection.

  • Patent number: 6980590
Abstract: In a modem system connecting two modems over the telephone lines, a method is disclosed that transmits identification data regarding the two modems. Furthermore, the connection between the two modems may be optimized based upon information regarding the compatibility of the two modems. In addition, a secondary logic channel, which may remain open throughout the duration of the connection may also be used to transmit data about the modems. The secondary logic channel would only transmit data if the primary data channel is not being fully used. The secondary logic channel may be used to transmit various diagnostic information between the modems.

  • Patent number: 5502689
Abstract: A clock generator and interrupt bypass circuit for use in reducing the power consumption of the electrical system in which they are implemented. The clock generator provides module clock signals for sequencing modules within the same electrical system, and is capable of generating those module clock signals when in an active mode, and of not generating those module clock signals when in a stand-by mode. The clock generator is further capable of providing a delay of a predetermined length from a request to enter shut-down mode to actual entry into shut-down mode, allowing time to prepare the electrical system for shut-down mode. The interrupt bypass circuit provides a means of leaving shut-down mode in the event that the relevant interrupt requests have been masked.

  • Patent number: 5481690
Abstract: A processing system having a processor which accesses external memory for data and/or instructions includes an improved external memory access control system producing external memory enable time durations which are independent of the number of external memory accesses per unit of time, thereby reducing power consumption of the processing system. The control system includes a clock source for providing a clock signal which determines the external memory access rate. An enable duration control is coupled to the clock source and is arranged to enable the external memory for time durations during each memory access which are independent from the external memory access rate.
