Patent number: 10684822Abstract: In an example method, an electronic device receives data regarding a graphical user interface to be presented on a display of the electronic device. The electronic device identifies one or more key regions of the graphical user interface based on the received data and one or more rules. The one or more rules pertain to at least one of a geometric shape, a geometric size, a location, or a hierarchical property. The graphical user interface is presented on the display of the electronic device, and the at least one of the key regions of the graphical user interface is indicated using the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2019Date of Patent: June 16, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Patti Pei-Chin Hoa, Gregory F. Publication number: 20200081598Abstract: An accessibility method is performed by an electronic device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface. The method includes: displaying a first section of a document on the display, where the document has a plurality of sections that includes the first section of the document; outputting an audible document section indicia that corresponds to the first section of the document; and detecting a first finger gesture on the touch-sensitive surface. The method also includes, in response to detecting the first finger gesture, ceasing to display the first section of the document; displaying a second section of the document on the display, where the second section of the document is adjacent to the first section of the document; and outputting an audible document section indicia that corresponds to the second section of the document.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 11, 2019Publication date: March 12, 2020Inventors: Christopher Brian FLEIZACH, Eric Taylor SEYMOUR, Gregory F. Publication number: 20190221200Abstract: A system and method is disclosed that uses screen reader like functionality to speak information presented on a graphical user interface displayed by a media presentation system, including information that is not navigable by a remote control device. Information can be spoken in an order that follows a relative importance of the information based on a characteristic of the information or the location of the information within the graphical user interface. A history of previously spoken information is monitored to avoid speaking information more than once for a given graphical user interface. A different pitch can be used to speak information based on a characteristic of the information. Information that is not navigable by the remote control device can be spoken after time delay. Voice prompts can be provided for a remote-driven virtual keyboard displayed by the media presentation system. The voice prompts can be spoken with different voice pitches.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2019Publication date: July 18, 2019Inventors: Christopher B. Fleizach, Reginald Dean Hudson, Eric Taylor Seymour

Patent number: 9865248Abstract: Techniques for improved text-to-speech processing are disclosed. The improved text-to-speech processing can convert text from an electronic document into an audio output that includes speech associated with the text as well as audio contextual cues. One aspect provides audio contextual cues to the listener when outputting speech (spoken text) pertaining to a document. The audio contextual cues can be based on an analysis of a document prior to a text-to-speech conversion. Another aspect can produce an audio summary for a file. The audio summary for a document can thereafter be presented to a user so that the user can hear a summary of the document without having to process the document to produce its spoken text via text-to-speech conversion.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2017Date of Patent: January 9, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Christopher Brian Fleizach, Reginald Dean Hudson

Patent number: 9536132Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms are provided for facilitating the capture and review of visual images by visually impaired users. In one implementation, these techniques and mechanisms provide pre image capture functionality and captured image review functionality. With the pre image capture functionality, audio messages are provided to the user to help the user position an image capturing mechanism properly to capture the desired subjects in a picture, to frame the subjects properly within the picture, to size the subjects properly within the picture, etc. With the image review functionality, audio messages are provided to the user to help the user enjoy and “visualize” a visual image that has been captured and is being displayed to the user. With these functionalities, a visually impaired user is able capture and review images to a much greater degree than is currently possible.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2011Date of Patent: January 3, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jerremy Holland, Eric Seymour, Chris Fleizach, Dean Hudson

A network for data related to the brand wherein the searching, at least in part, seeks out databases with online profiles for the brand. Content is aggregated based on the data from more than one source on the network. The content is normalized to generate normalized content by mapping data structures to display the normalized content in a consistent format. The content is curated to display the normalized content alongside links to the data related to the brand in an interface. The brand is provided with authorization to access and modify the interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2015Publication date: August 20, 2015Inventors: Kevin Arnold, David Galitzine King, Fayvor Love, Harry Dean Hudson

Publication number: 20150237056Abstract: Methods and systems for providing content for a brand to an authorized party via a distributed computer system are disclosed. A plurality of content is curated for a brand wherein the plurality of content has been aggregated from data resulting from a search of a network that, at least in part, seeks out databases with an online profile for the brand. A request is received for a first content for the brand wherein the request is from an authorized party at a content application programming interface (API). The first content is identified among the plurality of content for the brand. The authorized party is provided with access to the first content via the content API.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2015Publication date: August 20, 2015Inventors: Kevin Arnold, David Galitzine King, Fayvor Love, Harry Dean Hudson

Patent number: 8616888Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to define an insertion indicator on a Braille device are described. Information about an insertion indicator at a location on a display device is received. An output associated with the insertion indicator is provided to a Braille device. The output to the Braille device reproduces the location of the insertion indicator on the display device. The output associated with the insertion indicator may be provided to at least two cells of the Braille device. The output to the Braille device may be provided to raise a first dot of a first Braille cell on the Braille device, wherein the first Braille cell corresponds to a second location that precedes the first location on the display device. A Braille caption panel may be displayed on a display device, the Braille caption panel includes a simulation of the output associated with the insertion indicator on the Braille device.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2007Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Richard W.
