  • Patent number: 4642721
Abstract: A digital magnetic recording tape cartridge has a housing that permits use of up to 1/4-inch wide tape which, in turn, increases data recording packing density over standard 0.150-inch tape cartridges. The tape cartridge is the belt-driven type having a flexible elastic endless belt that applies tension to tape on the supply and take-up reels to move the tape. Rotation of a driving roller causes the belt to drive the tape reels and move the tape between the reels. A magnetic head of the tape transport engages an exposed portion of the tape in the cartridge for reading or writing data on the tape. In a preferred embodiment, the tape is 1/4-inch wide. The number of data tracks is substantially increased by the wider 1/4-inch tape. The cartridge housing has a base plate with a stepped down recess that accommodates the wider 1/4-inch tape and the wider supply and take-up reels, tape guide rollers, and tape guide pins.

  • Patent number: 4635155
Abstract: A digital magnetic recording tape cartridge has a housing that permits use of greater than 1/4-inch wide tape which, in turn, increases data recording packing density over standard 1/4-inch tape cartridges. In a preferred embodiment, the tape is 1/2-inch wide. The number of data tracks is substantially increased by the wider 1/2-inch tape. The cartridge housing has a base plate with a stepped on recesses that accommodates the wider 1/2-inch tape and the wider supply and take-up reels, tape guide rollers, and tape guide pins.

  • Patent number: 4429790
Abstract: In a magnetic recording disc cartridge having a recording disc contained within an upper housing and a separably mating lower housing, an improved latch and handle assembly includes a lift assembly means attached to a handle assembly which is pivotally mounted to the upper housing. The handle assembly has a cavity, a pair of spring bias means within the cavity, and an urging means adapted to urge against the spring bias means in a direction substantially perpendicular to the pivot axis and to retain the spring bias means in the cavity. The spring bias means are adapted to move from a first position wherein the handle assembly is adapted to receive the lift assembly means, to a second position wherein the spring bias means is adapted to capture the lift assembly means.

  • Patent number: 4356918
Abstract: The invention described herein is a storage container adapted to hold a plurality of substantially planar flexible members, such as flexible magnetic discs. The container has a base section and a pouch section. The pouch section is adapted to be fitted into the base section in a closed position and the pouch section is adapted to rotate about an axis such that in an open position the pouch section rests against the base section. The pouch section further has a partial front wall which is adapted to pivot about an axis enlarging the pouch section greatly facilitating the insertion and removal of the flexible planar member. Finally, the storage container has detent means to provide positive closure in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4235339
Abstract: In a magnetic recording disc cartridge having a recording disc contained within an upper housing and a separably mating lower housing, an improved latch and carrying handle includes a handle pivotally mounted to the upper housing, lifting apparatus selectively engageable with the recording disc for moving the disc axially away from the lower housing and including a pivotally mounted lifting bar and connected disc engaging element, a latch slidably mounted to the lifting bar for connecting the lifting bar and the handle together for pivotal movement, and a trigger engageable with the latch for moving the latch to its handle engaging position.
