Publication number: 20070090342Abstract: A layered article of manufacture and a method of manufacturing same is disclosed. A substrate has a biaxially textured MgO crystalline layer having the c-axes thereof inclined with respect to the plane of the substrate deposited thereon. A layer of one or more of YSZ or Y2O3 and then a layer of CeO2 is deposited on the MgO. A crystalline superconductor layer with the c-axes thereof normal to the plane of the substrate is deposited on the CeO2 layer. Deposition of the MgO layer on the substrate is by the inclined substrate deposition method developed at Argonne National Laboratory. Preferably, the MgO has the c-axes thereof inclined with respect to the normal to the substrate in the range of from about 10° to about 40° and YBCO superconductors are used.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2006Publication date: April 26, 2007Applicant: The University of ChicagoInventors: Uthamalingam Balachandran, Beihai Ma, Dean Miller

Patent number: 6945420Abstract: A metal reverse buckling sanitary rupture disc is provided having a central bulged section in which the convex surface of the bulged section is relatively smooth and of substantially uninterrupted configuration. A small segment region of the central bulged section is strain hardened by plastic deformation causing the segment region to have greater residual stress than the remainder of the central bulged section. When the disc is subjected to an overpressure condition against the convex surface of the bulged section sufficient to effect reversal of the bulged section, such reversal commences at the higher residual stress segment region of the bulged section.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2003Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: Fike CorporationInventors: Michael D. Publication number: 20050149989Abstract: An athlete recruiting architecture is disclosed. The athlete recruiting system allows a recruiting entity, such as a school, to search for and find athletes that satisfy recruiting entity-specified criteria. The athlete recruiting system also allows motion videos to be associated with athletes. These motion videos may be uploaded or streamed to interested recruiting entities over a communication network. The athlete recruiting system provides a video indexing mechanism that allows athletes and recruiting entities to generate and store indices to motion videos. The athlete recruiting system provides hit tracking mechanisms for notifying athletes about recruiting entities that have taken actions that indicate that the recruiting entities are interested in the athlete. As a result, athletes are encouraged to initiate contact with interested recruiting entities. This promotes the formation of relationships between athletes and recruiting entities while adhering to rules imposed on the recruiting process.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 7, 2004Publication date: July 7, 2005Inventors: John Lupoi, Denae Theder, Dean Miller, Mark Jordan

Publication number: 20050143728Abstract: A system and method for detecting perforations in a body cavity. In accordance with the method of the invention, a fluid (liquid or gas) is delivered into a body cavity to slightly pressurize the cavity. A pressure sensing system monitors the pressure within the cavity for a predetermined test period. If cavity pressure is not substantially sustained during the test period, the physician is alerted to further assess the cavity for perforations before initiating treatment within the cavity. In a preferred form of the system, a medical treatment system such as an RF ablation system is provided with perforation detection functionality. The system preferably includes a pre-test and post-test lockout system.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2005Publication date: June 30, 2005Inventors: Russel Sampson, Mike O'Hara, Csaba Truckai, Dean Miller

At least some of the web structures are non-planar and at least some adjacent web structures are spaced apart such that they define openings therebetween. In another aspect, the seating structure includes a plurality of boss structures arranged in a pattern and defining a support surface and a plurality of web structures joining adjacent boss structures within the pattern. At least some adjacent web structures are spaced apart and shaped such that they define substantially non-circular openings therebetween when viewed in a direction substantially perpendicular to the support surface. Publication number: 20040067538Abstract: The present invention provides assays to identify compounds that affect microglial cell activation, and specifically assays to identify compounds that affect secretion of cytokines from these microglial cells by modulating PGE2-mediated activity. The assays of the invention include assays for testing microglial cell activation by contacting microglia with compounds that modulate &bgr;-amyloid PGE2-mediated activation, which can be identified by cellular activity such as secretion of cytokines, e.g., TNF-&agr; and IL-1&agr;. The effect of the candidate compound can be determined by comparing the effect with a control culture which is not contacted with the compound, or by comparing the effect with a standardized profile.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2003Publication date: April 8, 2004Inventors: Paul Andrew Hyslop, Foy Dean Miller, Linda S. Publication number: 20040025581Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for monitoring the air pressure of a tire. Various colors are displayed by the apparatus to denote an inflation level of the tire, and the apparatus may remain coupled to the air nozzle of a tire indefinitely. The apparatus includes a diaphragm that deforms in response to an air pressure differential on opposing sides thereof. Deformation of the diaphragm may alter the position of a color indicating cup, such that a color is displayed through an observation window, informing a user as to the inflation state of the tire. An LED circuit is provided for indicating a low tire pressure condition.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2003Publication date: February 12, 2004Inventor: Laurence Dean Miller
