Publication number: 20240022121Abstract: A rotor includes a rotor winding that includes core recesses that are defined through the rotor winding. Raised protrusions are located on a top surface of the rotor winding and positioned adjacent to the core recesses. A core is fit at least partially into each of the core recesses, and a force is applied on the top surface of the rotor winding and the top surface of the cores to fit the cores within the core recesses. As the force is applied to the top surface of the rotor winding, the raised protrusions adjacent to the core recesses are deformed so that the material from the raised protrusion flows into the adjacent core recess. This extra material helps to secure the core within the core recess.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2022Publication date: January 18, 2024Applicant: Metal Powder Products, LLCInventors: Terry Lee Sowder, Ronald Dean Payne, Anne N. Patent number: 11619723Abstract: Examples are disclosed herein that relate to a time-of-flight camera that performs phase unwrapping in an efficient manner. In one example, a time-of-flight camera includes a light emitter, a sensor array, and a controller. The controller is configured to select a frequency mode from a plurality of frequency modes, each frequency mode including two or more different frequencies, and at least two different frequency modes of the plurality of frequency modes having a common frequency shared between the at least two frequency modes, control the light emitter to illuminate a scene with modulated light of the two or more different frequencies of the frequency mode selected, control the sensor array to receive the modulated light reflected from objects within the scene, and process the modulated light received to determine unwrapped phases for the frequency mode selected based on the two or more different frequencies of the frequency mode selected.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2019Date of Patent: April 4, 2023Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Zhanping Xu, Andrew Dean Payne, John Peter Godbaz, Travis J. Patent number: 11108957Abstract: An imaging system includes a sensor array of differential pixels. A controller operates a first differential pixel of the sensor array in a first, lower power mode. The controller supplies a first clock signal to selectively activate a first collection terminal of the first differential pixel for a first duration, and a second clock signal to selectively activate a second collection terminal of the first differential pixel for a second duration. In an analog domain, a first amount of charge accumulated at the first collection terminal over the first duration is readout and compared to a readout of a second amount of charge accumulated at the second collection terminal over the second duration. Responsive to the first amount of charge being different from the second amount of charge by more than a threshold, the first differential pixel of the sensor array is operated in a second, higher power mode.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2020Date of Patent: August 31, 2021Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Minseok Oh, Cyrus Soli Bamji, Swati Mehta, Barry Thompson, Andrew Dean Payne

Patent number: 10079987Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of simulating an initial component of a signal to approximate a component of a reference signal, the method characterized by the steps of: i. generating a source signal which includes at least one harmonic component, and ii. determining the average amplitude and duration of the source signal, and iii. referencing the amplitude of the reference signal component to be simulated, and iv. integrating the source signal over a period of time sufficient to produce a value for the signal component amplitude approximate to the reference signal component amplitude.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2014Date of Patent: September 18, 2018Assignee: Heptagon Micro Optics Pte. Patent number: 9306597Abstract: Data compression is described herein. The encoder transmits a coded word having replacement bits, as well as a code that defines the starting location of the replacement bits in a data sample. The replacement bits may be actual bits from a selected location in the new data sample. The selected location of the replacement bits can vary from data sample to data sample. The encoder may select the location based on the most significant bit that has changed. Thus, reconstructed data will be bit-accurate from the replaced bits all the way to the highest-order bit. A limited number of key values can be transmitted losslessly. Moreover, the data compression does not need forward error correction (FEC), which is a necessary part of many lossy delta encoding schemes. Furthermore, the encoding and decoding can be done very efficiently in terms of hardware and/or software.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2015Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Andrew David Daniel, Michael Fenton, Andrew Dean Payne, John Peter Godbaz

Patent number: 9182491Abstract: A method for determining a distance to an object using an amplitude modulated continuous wave range imaging device includes emitting a modulated illumination signal. The modulated illumination signal is modulated with a pseudo random code. An image sensor is modulated based on the pseudo random code to capture a plurality of samples of the modulated illumination signal reflected from the object. A phase shift between the plurality of samples and the modulated illumination signal is determined.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2012Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Assignee: WaikatoLink LimitedInventors: Adrian Andrew Dorrington, Andrew Dean Payne

Patent number: 7852469Abstract: A particle detection device and method wherein a bulk sample of particles is selectively collected based on scattering properties of the particles and fluorescence properties of the particles. The bulk sample of particles is then excited to produce an atomic emission from the bulk sample of particles. The atomic emission from the bulk sample of particles is used to determine atomic emission properties of the particles and identify biological particles in the bulk sample.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2007Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: David W. Patent number: 5309082Abstract: A hybrid regulator incorporates both linear and switching-type regulator circuits. While such a combination may at first be thought undesirable as simply compounding the flaws of one design with the flaws of the other, in fact the present design is well suited for many applications. In the preferred embodiment, the linear and switching circuits are cascaded. The switching circuit runs in open-loop fashion--without adaptive control. However, a feedback signal is derived from the output of the switching circuit and is used to control the linear regulator, effecting net control of the entire circuit. In this manner, a simple, low cost power supply is provided that provides the excellent regulation and simple over-current protection characteristic of a linear supply, together with the boost capabilities of switching topologies.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1992Date of Patent: May 3, 1994Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventor: Dean A.
