  • Patent number: 10829061
Abstract: An engine system (200) for a vehicle comprising: a powertrain component (120); a second vehicle component (130); a fixing (140) joining the powertrain component (120) to the second vehicle component (130); a thermally insulating panel (100) comprising at least one uncompressed area (104) extending over at least a portion of the powertrain component (120) to at least partially thermally insulate the powertrain component (120) and comprising at least one pre-compressed area (106) for providing a rigid mounting position to mount the vehicle component (130) to the powertrain component (120), the rigid mounting position to be located at a potential thermal bridge between the powertrain component (120) and the second vehicle component (130) such that it forms a thermal insulating layer between the powertrain component (120) and the second vehicle component (130).

  • Patent number: 10703304
Abstract: A thermal encapsulation apparatus for reducing heat loss from a vehicle component includes an insulating layer which, together with a surface of the component, forms a cavity between them. The apparatus also includes at least one baffle located within the cavity so as to define at least one cell therein. Within the cell, a convective-driven airflow caused by a temperature gradient between the surface of the component and the insulating layer is recirculated. The apparatus allows the component to store heat when it is not operational so that upon restarting the component, e.g. the vehicle engine, there is reduced friction in the moving parts, particularly in relatively cool ambient temperatures.

  • Patent number: 10329993
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a vehicle exhaust assembly (1) for an internal combustion engine. The vehicle exhaust assembly (1) comprises an exhaust system (3) and an exhaust mounting assembly (4) for mounting the exhaust system (3) to a vehicle (2). The exhaust system (3) comprises an inlet section (5) for connection to the internal combustion engine; an intermediate section (6) connected to the inlet section (5); an outlet section (7) for exhausting gases from the internal combustion engine; and one or more exhaust decoupler (8) for decoupling the intermediate section (6) from the inlet section (5). The exhaust mounting assembly (4) comprises one or more first isolator device (20-1, 20-2) for resiliently constraining movement of the intermediate section (6) of the exhaust system (3) in a longitudinal direction; and one or more second isolator device (20-3, 20-4) for resiliently constraining movement of the outlet section (7) of the vehicle (2) exhaust in a transverse direction.

  • Patent number: 10284948
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to an active noise system (4), a vehicle (1) with an active noise system (4), a method for controlling an active noise system (4), a computer program for controlling an active noise system (4) and an active noise controller (40). The wading detection system (3) includes sensors (30, 31, 32, 33) for detecting a wading depth and a wading detection controller (34). The active noise system (4) includes speakers (41, 42) for modifying the exhaust noise emitted from the vehicle (1). The wading detection controller (34) is operable to detect or anticipate a predetermined wading depth (W1, W2) at which the speakers (41, 42) will come into contact with the water. The active noise controller (40) is configured to deactivate the speakers (41, 42) when the predetermined wading depth (W1, W2) is detected or anticipated by the wading detection controller (34).
