  • Publication number: 20020054050
Abstract: A method and system for efficiently executing a predefined process within a data processing system having multiple objects and a movable cursor element displayed therein A user defined executable process is specified within the data processing system which may be applied to one or more arbitrary objects within the data processing system. The user defined executable process is then associated with the movable cursor within the data processing system. Thereafter, each time an object is graphically selected within the data processing system utilizing the movable cursor, the user defined executable process is applied to the selected object. The physical appearance of the movable cursor is preferably altered to indicate the association of the user defined executable process with the movable cursor and an error message is returned in response to a selection of an object which cannot be processed utilizing the user defined executable process.

  • Patent number: 5865245
Abstract: A stuffing box gland 20 that cooperates with packing 38 positioned within a stuffing box 18 to seal between a stuffing box housing 42 and a moveable polished rod 27 of an oilfield pump assembly 10. A lower end of a gland housing 46 forms a flange 50 extending radially outward from the gland housing 46 that is adapted for transmitting a variable compressive force to the packing 38, within the stuffing box 18. A plurality of attachment members 52 are utilized for interconnecting the gland housing flange 50 and the stuffing box housing flange 51 and may be adjusted to vary the compressive force exerted by the lower end 48 of the gland housing 46 on the packing 38. A sleeve 56 surrounds the polished rod 27 and includes a lower end 58 that seals with an annular seat 54.

  • Patent number: 5805111
Abstract: A Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System(TCAS) antenna is mounted on a selected forward portion of an aircraft thereby extending the effective forward range of the TCAS. The antenna and ground plane are tilted relative to conventional TCAS antennas thereby aligning a peak of the antenna's radiation pattern along the aircraft's level line of flight. The resulting increased gain directed forward of the aircraft increases the forward range of the TCAS for both receiving and transmitting TCAS signals. The invention is also useful to extend the range of other aircraft systems including transponders. Alternate embodiments include tilting a conventional TCAS antenna mounted on a middle portion of the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 5748982
Abstract: Manual insertion of hardware jumpers to configure I/O device selection and addressing is eliminated through the implementation of specialized hardware which allows for program control over several addressing paths. A register file is utilized within a programmable device to configure demultiplexers and multiplexers which map I/O address control line signals to set up various communication paths for address I/O exchanges. I/O configuration is entirely removed from add-on cards through the use of the programmable device. Accordingly, such add-on cards only require minimum circuitry, thus facilitating the use of miniature or baby cards as option cards which are much smaller than standard add-on cards.

  • Patent number: 5687379
Abstract: This invention relates to a system for providing programmable configuration protection of a programmable Input/Output device. By configuration protection, it is meant that the programming options of an I/O controller can be set in accordance to a given environment, and then by use of a programming controlled signal, prevent the changing of the programmed environment or remove those programmed options considered unsafe in the now secured environment.

  • Patent number: 5379999
Abstract: A sheet media handling apparatus includes an air plenum having a first set of openings for passing air in the vicinity of a sheet media being handled and a second opening; and a fan including a flat brushless DC motor mounted adjacent the second opening and a centrifugal impeller attached to the motor and positioned so as to move air through the second opening when rotated by the motor. A pressure sensor connected to the motor drive circuit controls the speed of the motor in an inverse relationship to atmospheric pressure so that sufficient air pressure is provided for the sheet handling apparatus while minimizing the noise generated by the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5028079
Abstract: An improved slip suspension wellhead is disclosed for suspending a selected tubular member inside another without crushing. An inclined support surface is provided with a second support surface which may contact a portion of the slip assembly to halt axial movement of the slips relative to the wellhead body. The second support surface is placed along the inclined support surface at a pre-selected point in order to stop the radial movement of the slip gripping faces before the inner slip diameter is compressed below the sum of the drift diameter plus two times the maximum wall thickness for the selected tubular member. Therefore, the improved wellhead may utilize slips having substantially reduced axial length without danger of crushing the tubular member.
