Patent number: 10588293Abstract: An animal feeder has a hopper for receiving feed, the hopper having converging front panels with lower ends defining an elongate chute through which feed is directed. A shield is attached to each of the front panels and diverges from the front panel forming a cove that remains free of feed. A trough extends along the feeder and a water supply duct delivers water into the trough. An elongate shelf has a feed platform for receiving feed from the hopper. The shelf is positioned above the trough such that any feed falling, falls into the trough. The shelf has shelf retainers running longitudinally of the shelf above the feed platform, each shelf retainer directed between its respective shield and front panel. A height-adjusting mechanism adjusts the vertical position of the shelf relative the hopper and the trough. As the shelf moves upward, the shelf retainer moves into the cove.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2016Date of Patent: March 17, 2020Assignee: The GSI Group, LLCInventor: Austin Dean Zimmerman

Patent number: 8061899Abstract: A flexible storage bag for storing food items and the like is provided with a separation material positioned to cover an aperture disposed in and/or a one-way valve element attached to the storage bag. The separation material may be a non-woven material. When latent air remaining in the interior volume of the storage bag is exhausted through the aperture and/or one-way valve element, the air passes through the separation material. The separation material functions to remove liquids that may be entrained in the exhausting air. In an embodiment, the separation material may be treated with a low surface energy substance to improve the liquid removal function. In another embodiment, the separation material may be provided as a plurality of layers or as part of the one-way valve element.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2005Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: The Glad Products CompanyInventors: Dean A. Zimmerman, Michael G. Borchardt

Patent number: 7798714Abstract: The flexible storage bag includes overlaying first and second sidewalls defining an internal volume that can be accessed from an open top edge. To evacuate air from the internal volume after the open top edge has been closed, the bag includes a one-way valve element attached to the first sidewall and communicating with the internal volume. To prevent the one-way valve element from becoming clogged by the opposing second sidewall, the bag also includes a clearance member that maintains at least a partial clearance between the first and second sidewalls proximate the valve element. The clearance member can take many forms such as a textured portion on the second sidewall that includes evacuation passages which provide air in the internal volume access to the valve element, a permeable element covering the valve element, and a rigid or compressible structure that spaces the second sidewall from the valve element.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2007Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: The Clorox CompanyInventors: Dean A. Zimmerman, Carl L. Bergman, Michael G. Borchardt

Publication number: 20100205909Abstract: A flexible thermoplastic storage bag includes first and second sidewalls providing an internal volume for receiving and storing food items. The internal volume is accessible via an opening. To close the opening, the storage bag includes first and second closure features. The first closure feature may be a pair of interlocking fastening strips that can engage and release each other to allow for repeated opening and closing of the bag. The second closure feature can be a peel seal located proximate the opening. The peel seal can be opened by opposing pulling forces applied to first and second sidewalls. To further reusability of the storage bag, the peel seal can be configured as a reusable peel seal.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 3, 2008Publication date: August 19, 2010Inventors: Dean A. Zimmerman, Carl Bergman

Publication number: 20100183251Abstract: A closure element is used for closing an opening disposed through the flexible sidewall of a storage bag such as those used to store food items. The storage bags provide an internal volume accessible via the opening. The closure element includes a first fastening strip and an interlocking second closure strip. The first and second fastening strips include complementary, engagable first and second closure profiles. To hermetically seal the internal volume, at least a portion of the first or second fastening strip can include a sealant. The sealant can be a displaceable fluid, fluid-like substance, semi-rigid substance, or wax-like substance such as an oil or a gel. When the closure profiles are engaged, the sealant provides an air tight barrier sealing the internal volume.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2007Publication date: July 22, 2010Inventors: Andrew E. Neltner, Carl L. Bergman, Dean A. Zimmerman

Patent number: 7597479Abstract: The storage bag includes an interior volume for containing food items and a one-way valve element through which air from the interior volume can be evacuated. To prevent fluids and juices from the stored food items from contaminating the valve element, a separator defining a chamber is included that sealingly connects the valve element to the interior volume. In the separator, fluids and juices separate from the evacuating air by gravitational separation and are returned to the interior volume. In an embodiment, to facilitate packaging and distribution of multiple storage bags, the separator is adjustable between an expanded position for providing the chamber and a collapsed position substantially eliminating the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2005Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: The Glad Products CompanyInventors: Dean Zimmerman, Carl L.
