  • Publication number: 20230253783
Abstract: (57) Abstract: A system and a method for limiting in-rush currents to a battery module (14) is provided. The system and the method include operating a power MOSFET (12) with a pulse-width-modulated, PWM gate voltage. The frequency and the duty cycle of the PWM gate voltage are iteratively selected such that the current through the battery module (12) does not exceed a current limit value (18), the battery module (14) being series connected with the MOSFET load path. In one embodiment, the frequency and the duty cycle of the PWM gate voltage are alternatively varied to gradually increase the current in the load path until a current limit value (18) is reached.

  • Publication number: 20220256651
Abstract: A system and a method for controlling a power MOSFET for limiting electromagnetic interference from a load is provided. The system and method include a pulse-width-modulated (PWM) control voltage to operate the power MOSFET in accordance with its Ohmic region (linear mode). By operating the power MOSFET in its Ohmic region, the electromagnetic field generated by the load is reduced, without requiring a dedicated DC/DC converter that would otherwise increase the cost, size, and weight of the power electronics.

  • Patent number: 9979321
Abstract: An inverter producing an alternating current from a direct current source has a primary stage coupled to the direct current source having a step-up transformer, a first switching circuit coupling the direct current to the transformer primary and a rectifier coupled to a secondary of the transformer for producing a DC voltage; a controller for the first switching circuit providing pulse drive signals to control switches of the first switching circuit to cause current to flow in the transformer primary and induce an alternating current in the transformer secondary; a secondary stage receiving the DC voltage having a second switching circuit and a controller for the second switching circuit for generating control signals to cause current through the second switching circuit to flow in alternate directions thorough the load.

  • Publication number: 20140320254
Abstract: An assembly having transformer and inductor characteristics includes a primary transformer winding coil and a secondary transformer winding coil, each wound around a core axis. The primary coil has outer peripheral primary coil portions spaced radially of the core axis outwardly away from central primary coil portions of the primary coil. The secondary coil has outer peripheral secondary coil portions spaced radially of the core axis outwardly away from central secondary coil portions of the secondary coil. The central primary and secondary coil portions are electromagnetically coupled and stacked in a close confronting adjacent relationship to form a transformer. The outer peripheral primary and secondary coil portions diverge radially and outwardly away from the core axis to form an inductance. The diverging outer peripheral primary and secondary coil portions bound an angle whose angular spread determines a magnitude of the inductance.
