    Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for increasing the amount of content that can be displayed to a message recipient relative to the amount of information transmitted. This can be accomplished by identifying series of characters that can be replaced by a shortcut character string. Although both the sender and the recipient can see the full text of a message, the amount of data transmitted can be reduced based on the difference in the number of characters in the full message relative to the number of characters after replacement of identified series of characters with shortcut character strings.

After terminating the wireless communications with the first wireless communication system, the wireless device wirelessly registers with a second wireless communication system to obtain second registration data and stores the second registration data. Based upon these determined wireless network parameters, the wireless communications device determines an optimal file transmission size. The multimedia messaging service message may then be divided into one or more file chunks having a file size equal to the optimal file transmission size by the wireless communications device. The file chunks are transmitted by the wireless communication device to another wireless user.

The register includes information of the location where the target devices of SMS messages are located. The register is utilized to detect an SMS induced DoS attack. A trigger is communicated to an SMS router to enable a DoS mode that restricts the communication of SMS messages. In an exemplary embodiment, only those SMS messages identified as part of the DoS attack are restricted.

When the system detects network congestion, it merges two or more packets where possible to make a single packet. When two or more data packets have instant messages with the same recipient and the same sender, the system merges the data packets into a single data packet and further merges the instant messages into a single instant message containing more than one message body.

Operating in the alternative broadcast involves (i) generating a modified pilot signal comprising the standard pilot signal and a data message inserted in the standard pilot signal and (ii) broadcasting the modified pilot signal via the pilot channel, which enables a wireless-communication device receiving the modified pilot signal to extract the data message therefrom.
