  • Patent number: 9521612
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for indicating, by a multimode access point, an availability of a service on a first RAT to a mobile device via a second RAT. The multimode access point may determine whether a service is available from a base station on the first RAT, e.g., a VoLTE service from a LTE base station. The multimode access point may send an indication to the mobile device of the available services. The mobile device may configure a voice call session based on the available services and initiate the voice call session accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9357488
Abstract: Access terminals are adapted to facilitate reacquisition procedures for a slotted idle mode. According to one example, an access terminal can operate in a slotted idle mode. The access terminal can then determine one or more optimized parameters for reacquisition procedures. In one example, the access terminal can determine an optimized length of time for reacquisition periods by incrementally reducing the length of time for reacquisition periods until an optimized length of time is obtained. In another example, the access terminal can determine an optimized number of pseudorandom noise (PN) signals and PN positions to be stored during each awake state of the slotted idle mode by incrementally reducing the number of PN signals and PN positions that are stored until an optimized number of stored PN signals and PN positions is obtained. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also included.

  • Patent number: 9351137
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for handling simultaneous calls on a multi-subscriber identification module (SIM) multi-active (MSMA) device having at least a first SIM associated with a first transceiver and a second SIM associated with a second transceiver. A processor of the MSMA device may establish a first SIM call using the first transceiver and a second SIM call using the second transceiver while the first SIM call is active. The processor may also establish a direct wireless link to a second mobile communication device using a third transceiver. The processor may maintain both the first and second SIM calls active simultaneously by handling the first SIM call using an input/output device of the MSMA device and relaying the second SIM call to the second communication device via the direct wireless link.

  • Patent number: 9344894
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatuses for handling malicious attacks. In one aspect, the methods and apparatuses are configured to identify packets received from a malicious source based at least in part on packets received by a wireless device that change a state of the wireless device from a dormant state to a connected state, selectively disconnect the wireless device from a packet data network (PDN) by releasing a first Internet Protocol (IP) address used to connect the wireless device to the PDN when a number of packets identified as received from the malicious source reaches a threshold number within a monitoring period, and reconnect the wireless device to the PDN using a second IP address that is different from the first IP address. In another aspect, a connection to an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) PDN is maintained after the PDN is disconnected.

  • Patent number: 9295069
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems embodiments enable a multi-antenna mobile device to mitigate radio frequency (RF) radiation exposure to users. A processor may determine a distance between the multi-antenna mobile device and the select portion of the user and switch from using a first antenna that is closer to the select portion of the user to using a second antenna when the multi-antenna mobile device is close to the user. The signal strength of the first antenna may be compared to the signal strength of a second antenna of the multi-antenna mobile device, and the second antenna may be used instead of the first antenna when the signal strength of the first antenna is within a predetermined threshold of the signal strength of the second antenna. If acceptable signal quality is not obtained with the second antenna, the multi-antenna mobile device may switch back to the first antenna.

  • Patent number: 9264868
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for intercepting requests from applications installed on a mobile device. The requests are system calls that establish communication channels for the mobile device. The requests are captured and held from reaching TCP/IP stack of an operating system executing on the mobile device. An intercepted request is aggregated with other intercepted requests. The aggregated requests are bundled together and released to the operating system upon the detection of a triggering event. The capture, holding, and aggregation of requests from applications occur when the mobile device is in a background mode.

  • Patent number: 9204382
Abstract: Embodiment methods and devices enable use of a shared radio resource on a multi-SIM wireless communication device to maintain session information on a service associated with one SIM during unused time slots of an active communication session associated with another SIM. During the session, a processor may calculate radio idle time periods in the active communication session, determine whether any of the radio idle time periods will exceed a predetermined threshold duration, and retune the shared radio resource to receive search samples on a frequency of the non-active network during radio idle time periods that exceed the predetermined threshold duration. Search samples may be stored for processing between radio idle time periods in order to maintain session information on a service associated with one SIM and provide service information to applications executing on the device during the active communication session.

  • Patent number: 9198180
Abstract: An opportunistic receive diversity scheme for VAMOS and similar deployments is disclosed. Receive diversity may be conditionally enabled when a VAMOS call is assigned to one of the SIMs of a mobile device. For example, receive diversity may be enabled when VAMOS data does not overlap with a time slot that is used by another subscription of the mobile device for receiving page messages. Also, receive diversity for a VAMOS call may be limited to situations where the VAMOS channel conditions are poor. Receive diversity may be enabled in cases where multiple subscriptions are assigned the same VAMOS channel, where VAMOS channel conditions have deteriorated, or where one of the subscriptions is not on a VAMOS channel. Also, receive diversity may be dynamically enabled for multiple subscriptions in cases where the subscriptions are assigned to different VAMOS channels.

  • Publication number: 20150324564
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for biometric identification are provided. The apparatus may be a user device. The apparatus may detect biometric information for a predetermined period of time. The predetermined period of time may be set by a hysteresis timer. The apparatus may compare the detected biometric information with stored biometric information associated with a stored user profile of a plurality of user profiles. The apparatus may then determine whether to display the stored user profile based on the comparison after the predetermined period of time has elapsed.

  • Patent number: 9185649
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for optimizing data transmission include receiving an indicator indicating the availability of a first communication channel, the first communication channel having a higher data rate than a second communication channel. Aspects can include determining whether the first communication channel is available to transmit data based on the indicator, and transmitting the data via the first communication channel, upon determining that the first communication channel is available. Additionally, aspects include entering a sleep state, upon determining that the first communication channel is not available, and determining whether the first communication channel has become available during a subsequent awake period. Entering a sleep state and determining whether the first communication channel has become available during a subsequent awake period may occur until the first communication channel becomes available or until an expiration of a timer.

  • Patent number: 9148837
Abstract: Various features and aspects of the present disclosure are adapted to facilitate improved reception of page messages at an access terminal operable in a wireless communication system. When the access terminal is in a region where two or more cells overlap, if the access terminal is moving away from the coverage area of an active cell and moving towards the coverage area of a neighbor cell, the access terminal may miss an incoming page message transmitted from its serving cell. Thus, the access terminal may dedicate fingers of a rake receiver to listen to paging information transmitted from one or more neighbor cells, decoding this information if a page decoding operation corresponding to the active cell fails. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

  • Patent number: 9131475
Abstract: A method and apparatus configured to perform fast acquisition in multi-subscription multi-active devices are described. The apparatus may establish a first traffic call associated with a first subscription using a first radio frequency chain and a second traffic call associated with a second subscription using a second radio frequency chain. A subscription corresponding to a third subscription may enter an out-of-service mode when the first and second traffic calls are established. A first network may be acquired for the first subscription using the first RF chain after the first traffic call is terminated. The third subscription may be transitioned from out-of-service mode to idle mode using acquisition information inherited from the subscription corresponding to the first SIM after the first network is acquired. The third subscription and the first network may be associated with a same radio access technology and a same network operator.
