  • Publication number: 20140322386
Abstract: A method and additive for making beer includes the use of an additive tablet of yeast and sugar, as well as other additives, that is inserted into bottles of beer prior to capping. After the bottles are capped, these additive tablets promote secondary fermentation and carbonation of the beer within the bottles to form carbon dioxide and ethyl alcohol.

  • Patent number: 8041434
Abstract: A distal section of an implantable medical electrical lead body includes a pair of pre-formed arcuate segments between which an approximately straight segment extends. The approximately straight segment includes a first portion extending distally from a first of the pair pre-formed arcuate segments, a second portion extending from the first portion, a third portion extending from the second to a second of the pair pre-formed arcuate segments. An electrode is coupled to the second portion of the approximately straight segment, and the adjacent first portion has a stiffness which is less than that of the first of the pair pre-formed arcuate segments and preferably less than the stiffness of the third portion, so that, when the distal section of the lead body is implanted, for example, within a cardiac vein, the lead buckles to bring the electrode into closer contact with surrounding tissue.

  • Patent number: 6174332
Abstract: An annuloplasty ring includes an elongated main body having a generally partial shape extending between first and second ends. An elongated secondary body also includes first and second ends which couple to, respectively, the first and second ends of the main body. A first cut zone couples the first end of the main body to the first end of the secondary body. A second cut zone couples the second end of the main body to the second end of the secondary body. The annuloplasty ring may be selectively formed generally into a partial annuloplasty ring shape by severing the first and second cut zones and removing the secondary body.

  • Patent number: 6001127
Abstract: An annuloplasty ring and support assembly includes a ring support that has a peripheral wall with a peripheral shoulder surface, and a flange extending at generally right angles to the shoulder surface. The flange is removed or terminated in a selected portion of the peripheral wall so that the shoulder surface is unobstructed and provides a backing support against which a cutting force will be reacted when the annuloplasty ring is cut.

  • Patent number: 5843179
Abstract: A heart valve prosthesis for use in a heart includes an orifice defining a lumen therethrough for blood flow. An occluder is carried in the orifice and is movable between an open position which allows blood flow through the lumen and a closed position in which flow through the lumen is blocked. A suture cuff coupled to the orifice extends around an outer circumference of the orifice and is used for attaching the heart valve to a heart tissue annulus using sutures. The sutures are knotted proximate the suture cuff to secure the cuff to the annulus. A suture guard is coupled to the suture cuff and is movable between an open position in which the suture knot is exposed and a closed position in which the suture, suture knot and suture cuff are covered.
