  • Patent number: 8443505
Abstract: A wiper arm assembly and method of assembly thereof includes a mounting head and a wiper arm configured for relative rotation during assembly from a disassembled position to a shipping position, wherein the wiper arm and mounting head are locked against rotation toward the disassembled position once in the shipping position. The mounting head and wiper arm have locking surfaces configured for locked engagement with one another while in the shipping position. The locking surfaces are brought into engagement with one another by a force imparted by a spring while rotating the mounting head relative to the wiper arm from the disassembled position toward the shipping position. When in the shipping position, the locking surfaces confront each other and prevent the mounting head and the wiper arm from rotating back toward the disassembled position from the shipping position.

  • Patent number: 7690509
Abstract: A flat blade windshield wiper blade (12) has a naturally elongated curve with a delicate wiper element (16) to be protected during shipping and display for retail sales purposes. A protective package (12) surrounds the wiper (12). The package (12) is made from a single piece of sheet stock and includes a flexible, outwardly bowed front panel (24), a back panel (26), and opposing left (30) and right (28) side panels adjoining respective sides of the front (24) and back (26) panels. Top (32) and bottom (34) end flaps extend between the front (24) and back (26) panels for forcing the front (24) panel to form in a generally semi-cylindrical configuration bowed outwardly relative to the back panel (26). The wiper (12) is disposed in a shipping condition in the package (12), with a connector (22) feature of the wiper (12) bearing in direct pressing contact with the bowed front panel (24).

  • Patent number: 7523522
Abstract: A central connecting device (36) for a flat blade style wiper blade assembly (20) includes a plastic intermediate base (38) that is fixed, such as by ultrasonic welding, to a pair of flexors (26) extending the length of the wiper blade assembly (20). The intermediate base (38) includes a recessed deck section (42) for receiving a metallic housing (54). The housing (54) is heat-staked in position to the intermediate base (38) to secure the two elements together as an integral unit. A rivet (78) extends transversely across the sidewalls (58) of the housing (54) for adjoining to a universal connector (82) or other suitable adaptor or by direction connection to the end of a wiper arm.
