    Abstract: The present invention discloses a method wherein a preliminary bonus feature is added to a primary casino game. The preliminary bonus feature is based on the outcome of a random event or multiple random events that takes place before the outcome of the primary casino game is determined. A wide variety of random events could be utilized, such as: the value, color or suit of a random card, the roll of dice, the spin of a wheel or slot reel, the flip of a coin, electronically displaying a random number on display means, a randomized display of symbols, etc. The outcome of the preliminary bonus feature is determined prior to determining the outcome of the primary game, and the outcome of the primary game cannot be adversely affected when the preliminary bonus feature has been triggered.

A wide variety of random events could be utilized, such as: the value, color or suit of a random card, the roll of dice, the spin of a wheel or slot reel, the flip of a coin, electronically displaying a random number on display means, etc. If the player wins the side bet, both the amount wagered and the amount won become a mandatory wager, and must be wagered on the immediately following hand of the base casino game. One type of embodiment of the present invention will require that if the player loses the side bet game, the side bet is collected, and the player must place a wager in order to participate in the immediately following hand of the base casino game.

Players are offered an initial Progressive Jackpot wagering opportunity prior to any cards being dealt, and are then offered subsequent wagering opportunities as they receive portions of their hand. A portion of each Progressive Jackpot wager is set aside for the Progressive Bonus. The amount of the Progressive Bonus, plus the amount of the Progressive Jackpot will be awarded to a player with the highest Progressive Jackpot hand rank (i.e. a Royal Flush) if that player placed a Progressive Jackpot wager at every offered opportunity.

A player is provided with an initial single hand and decides from that initial hand which set(s) of predetermined hand ranking rules to apply to that hand. After the player has decided which set(s) of predetermined hand ranking rules to utilize, the player may receive additional cards to complete their hand. The player's goal is either to achieve one or more predetermined minimum winning hand ranks, or to beat one or more of a plurality of "bank" hands, with each "bank" hand being played by a different set of predetermined hand ranking rules. The layout of the table could include boxes or lines or areas which the player could utilize to indicate which set(s) of predetermined hand ranking rules they chose to apply to their hand.
