The sampling and preserving device includes a collection cylinder and a retractable plunger having a sampling broom thereon. A containment collection chamber within the collection cylinder providing a sterile transportation container for the tissue sample which is suspended in a preservative gel that is mechanically disposed from within the collection cylinder onto the sampling broom by the user before transportation to the laboratory.
