  • Patent number: 6752501
Abstract: A lensless focusing device for receiving an unfocused laser beam and discharging a focused laser beam. The focusing device includes a solid body having an open interior defined by a conical inner wall extending from an inlet opening to a discharge opening. The conical inner wall is a polished or reflective surface that directs the input laser beam toward the discharge opening. The solid body can include a heating element to raise the temperature of the solid body relative to ambient.

  • Patent number: 6731421
Abstract: A lensless focusing device for receiving an unfocused laser beam and creating a desired output pattern of laser profiles. The focusing device includes a pair of wedge plates oriented at a reflective angle relative to the projection axis of the input laser beam. The focusing device generates an output pattern having a plurality of spaced laser profiles. The laser profiles include a series of fixed laser profiles and a series of adjustable laser profiles. Rotation of the focusing device about the projection axis of the input laser beam moves the adjustable laser profiles relative to the fixed laser profiles. Multiple focusing devices can be used in series with each other to generate an output pattern having a grid shape in which points on the grid are movable upon rotation of either focusing device.

  • Patent number: 5149065
Abstract: New and improved foam cushions for packaging purposes of the type including a cushion envelope partially filled with an expandable cushioning foam material are provided. The cushion envelope includes a foam-receiving cavity and is defined by a unitary web of material folded over itself to provide a folded side. An intermittent labyrinth side seam is provided along the side opposite the folded side and transverse top and bottom seams are provided to complete formation of the cushion envelope. A cushioning foam is disposed in the foam-receiving cavity. A method for making the foam cushions and an automated apparatus for making a continuous supply of the packaging cushions are also described.
