  • Patent number: 7145558
Abstract: An electronic device (1) provides for the selective illuminating of an associated display (5) thereby reducing battery power consumption. The electronic device (1) provides for detecting an event that will trigger an update of the display (5) and activation of illumination elements (27) for illuminating the display and determining whether the information to be displayed will occupy a region (B–L) of the display. If so, the region of the display is selectively illuminated by one or more of the illumination elements. The predetermined illumination time period may depend on a selected combination of a size of the region, a location of said region and/or a priority associated with the event.

  • Publication number: 20040212604
Abstract: An electronic device (1) has an interactive display screen (5) that is interactive with a stylus (10). The electronic device (1) has a switch (30) associated with a stylus engagement member (20) of a housing (2) of the device (1) and the switch (30) is actuated when the stylus (10) is stored in the engagement member (20). The device (1) has an alarm (39) coupled to a controller (32). When the controller (32) determines that the display screen (5) should power down and the switch (30) provides a detection signal indicative of the stylus (10) being disengaged from the stylus engagement member (20), then the alarm (39) provides a reminder signal to insert the stylus (10) into the stylus engagement member (20).

  • Patent number: 6515577
Abstract: A multichannel selective call receiver (10) includes-a receiver (11), a controller (16), a baud detector (17) and a memory (18). The controller is adapted to control the receiver in receiving information on a channel (14). The information on the channel includes mandatory frames having information fields. If the information fields in a mandatory frame on the channel do not indicate more information for the multichannel selective call receiver in the rest of the mandatory frame, the controller controls the receiver to receive information on other channels (15) during the rest of the mandatory frame. The information on the channel and the other channels is processed in accordance with channel priority as indicated in a channel list stored in the memory.

  • Patent number: 6477381
Abstract: A communication device (1) comprising a receiver (2) for receiving coded messages transmitted on one or more channels. There is a micro-processor (13), in communication with the receiver (2) and a frequency synthesizer (4) coupled to both the micro-processor (13) and the receiver (2) to thereby control reception of the channels. The communication device (1) also has a memory (14) storing a group of-channel frequencies, wherein the micro-processor (13) is adapted, in combination with the frequency synthesizer (4), to control the receiver (2) to scan at least some of the channels during baud detect periods of a protocol cycle associated with at least one of the channels. Further, the micro-processor (13) cyclically offsets a start of the baud detect periods after completion of a protocol cycle.

  • Patent number: 5490179
Abstract: A selective call receiver (10) comprising a receiver circuit (100) having at least one radio frequency amplifier (112) and at least one mixer (114), a baud rate detector (102), a signal grader (104), and a gain controller (106). Coupling to the baud rate detector (102) to determine the signal quality of a selective call signal, the signal grader (104) collates the results of at least one baud rate detection with a plurality of predetermined criteria and assigns a signal grade to the selective call signal. The signal grader (104) then indicates the signal grade to the gain controller (106) which then sets the at least one radio frequency amplifier (112) and the at least one mixer (114) to operate with one of a plurality of selectable predetermined parameters including a gain setting and a mixer injection setting corresponding to the signal grade assigned to the selective call signal.
