Publication number: 20260136417Abstract: The described embodiments regard methods and apparatus for managing bearer independent protocol (BIP) message communication responsive to protocol failures, including during session management procedures to establish a data connection with a wireless network. A network entity rejects establishment of a data communication based on a parameter incompatibility, capabilities, and/or operating conditions of the wireless network. A BIP response message to a secure element that initiates establishment of the data connection can include an indication of cause for the rejection, an indication of whether the rejection is temporary or permanent, and a backoff time indication for a temporary rejection.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2025Publication date: May 14, 2026Inventors: Nitin KUPPELUR, Chandra Kiran Raju MANDAPATI, Deepak DASH, Hyewon LEE, Stanley M. Patent number: 12615584Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for requesting and providing service of a network slice deemed essential by a user equipment (UE). The UE transmits a request message to the network indicating that essential services are requested, and identifying the essential network slice. Based on the information in the request message, the serving network communicates with one or more network nodes to determine whether the requested services can be provided. This information is packaged in a response message and transmitted to the UE. If the current network is capable of servicing the requested network slice, then the UE remains with the current network. If not, then the UE initiates a search for an alternative network (PLMN or SNPN) capable of supporting the requested services. A successful search causes the UE to register with the newly-found network, whereas an unsuccessful search causes the UE to re-register with the current network.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2021Date of Patent: April 28, 2026Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Nirlesh Koshta, Sridhar Prakasam, Karthik Anantharaman, Vijay Venkataraman, Krisztian Kiss, Nitin Kuppelur, Deepak Dash, Pradeep Pangi, Kavya B. Patent number: 12520226Abstract: If a paging or notification message is received by a user equipment (UE) when a UE-initiated 5GMM specific procedure or service request procedure is ongoing, a UE may buffer the paging or notification message. To buffer the paging or notification message, the UE may remember the pending mobile terminated transaction and re-attempt the registration or request procedure with the access category 0 (=MT_acc), if the ongoing UE-initiated 5GMM specific procedure or service request procedure fails due to access barring. If a 5GMM specific procedure or service request procedure is received by the network when a MT transaction is ongoing (i.e. a paging message with the access type set to 3GPP access or notification message via non-3GPP access with the access type indicating 3GPP access) the network may complete the incoming MT transaction and may remember the pending mobile terminated transaction and continue it once the MO transaction is completed.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2021Date of Patent: January 6, 2026Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Nitin Kuppelur, Roland Gruber, Krisztian Kiss, Deepak Dash, Piush Kumar

Publication number: 20250392983Abstract: This application regards optimization of non-access stratum signaling between a wireless device and a cellular wireless network to reduce network signaling load, conserve local access radio resources, and enhance the user experience of the wireless device. The wireless device proactively releases a packet data network (PDN) connection locally at the wireless device and marks a corresponding radio bearer inactive in a tracking area update request sent to the cellular wireless network to shorten time to complete the PDN connection, reducing network signaling load and freeing up access network resources. The wireless device also proactively releases a NAS signaling connection locally without waiting for a cellular wireless network disconnection when the NAS signaling connection is no longer required by the active subscriber identity module (SIM) of the wireless device, thereby allowing resources to be reallocated if needed to another SIM of the wireless device.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2025Publication date: December 25, 2025Inventors: Piush KUMAR, Anikethan Ramakrishna VIJAYA KUMAR, Nitin KUPPELUR, Deepak DASH

Publication number: 20240107405Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for implementing prioritized return of a UE to NR RAT from a GSM/UMTS RAT through RAT reselection based approach. An embodiment operates by determining whether the UE is camped on a first radio access technology (RAT), and in response to a determination that the UE is camped on the first RAT, stores a list of frequencies and a plurality of cell reselection parameter values corresponding to the first RAT. The embodiment determines whether the UE is camped on a second RAT and whether one of a plurality of trigger conditions is satisfied, and in response to a determination that the UE is camped on the second RAT and that one of the plurality of trigger conditions is satisfied, performs measurements on one or more frequencies of the list of frequencies. The embodiment performs cell reselection to a cell of the first RAT based at least in part on the measurements and the plurality of cell reselection parameter values.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Parvez SHEIKH, Bernd H. Patent number: 11877193Abstract: Systems and methods of enabling access for non-emergency voice calls are described. A UE operates in a network supporting voice services via a multitude of RATs. The UE attempts to access the network via a first RAT offering voice services and data services. If the UE does not receive a response from the network within a first time period, the UE re-attempts the access to the network via the first RAT. If the number of access attempts for which the UE does not receive a response is at least a threshold value, the UE refrains during a second time period from further access attempts via the first RAT for the purpose of receiving data services, and continues to attempt access via the first or second RAT for the purpose of receiving voice services.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2022Date of Patent: January 16, 2024Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Nitin Kuppelur, Deepak Dash, Robert Zaus, Shashanka Totadamane Ramappa, Vivek G.
