Abstract: A solenoid actuator is provided that includes a coil, a return pole, and an armature, all at least partially disposed within a housing. The return pole defines an armature seating surface that has a plurality of first surface features formed therein. The armature is axially movable in the housing between a first position and a second position. The armature defines a return pole engagement surface that has a plurality of second surface features formed therein. When the armature is in the first position, the return pole engagement surface is spaced apart from the armature seating surface. When the armature is in the second position, the return pole engagement surface engages the armature seating surface and the first and second surface features interlock.
