Abstract: Methods and apparatus for LAN PCIe bandwidth optimization. Packets to be sent outbound onto a network are generated and buffered in memory on a host computing device. Transmit (Tx) descriptors associated with respective packets are generated comprising descriptor data and at least a portion of the packet data for the packet, where the descriptor data are configured to be processed by a network apparatus coupled to the network, such as a network interface controller (NIC) or network adapter. Tx descriptors are transferred from host memory to the network apparatus over a Peripheral Component Internet Express (PCIe) interconnect using a single respective transaction level packet (TLP) per Tx descriptor. This increases bandwidth utilization for the PCIe interconnect by reducing the number of TLPs that are used to transfer Tx descriptors and packet data to the network apparatus. The novel Tx descriptors may be used for LAN and Wireless LANs.

The method includes transmitting the second data packet having the compressed portion via an interface to a co-processor. The processor and the co-processor are communicatively coupled via the interface. The method also includes unpacking, via the co-processor, the compressed portion of the second data packet to restore the first data packet.

Abstract: A fast reroute in a multiprotocol label switching network is provided. According to one embodiment, a method for finding a Label Switch Path (LSP) in a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network device is provided. The method comprising retrieving a packet from an receive port having an identifier, searching an improved routing table having an incoming information and an outgoing information for the incoming information having an incoming port identifier that matches the identifier, retrieving the incoming internal index and the outgoing port identifier from the matching incoming information, retrieving a status for the second port identifier from a port status table; and applying an function between the incoming internal index and status forming a derived index.

Abstract: A method and device for changing between a long address and a short address in a packet is provided. According to one embodiment, a method of converting a long address to a short address by an processing element in a communication network, comprises receiving a packet having a first long address, retrieving a first short address associated with the first long address from a data repository, replacing the first long address in the standard packet with the first short address forming an improved packet with a control field and sending the improved packet toward a subsequent device.
