The method includes transmitting a plurality of access control tokens from an access control system to a portable device, and detecting proximity a user portable device associated with one of the plurality of access control tokens to the portable device. A symbolic representation of the access control token associated with the user portable device is generated by and displayed on the portable device. Selection of the displayed symbolic representation is accepted at the portable device. The access control system is notified of selection of the displayed symbolic representation, thereby indicating identification of a user associated with the access control token symbolically represented by the symbolic representation. The venue symbolic representation includes at least one pictograph.

Abstract: A heat engine that utilizes a controllable heat source that includes a body comprising a dopant that has an affinity for a fuel species, preferably a hydrogen isotope. The production of heat by the heat source can be modulated by the application of electric and/or magnetic fields to the body. The hear engine includes safety features that prevent excessive heat generation.

Abstract: A heating element and a system of heating elements are disclosed. The heating element includes a body that is permeable to a fuel species and that includes a dopant with an affinity for the fuel species. Reactions of the fuel species at the dopant generate heat. Magnetic and electric fields are utilized to move the fuel species through the heating element.
