  • Patent number: 4930451
Abstract: A device for the controlled, sustained-release of an animal-treating composition, such as an insecticide, onto the surface of an animal in contact with the device comprises a reservoir defined by a permeable, imperforate, polymeric membrane. A porous packing inside the reservoir continuously wets the inside of the reservoir with the animal-treating composition so that the composition can continuously permeate through the membrane to the outer surface of the reservoir. A porous sheath in contact with the outer surface of the reservoir continuously conducts the composition away from the membrane and continuously deposits the composition onto the surface of the animal. The device is particularly useful for controlling horn flies on range animals, such as cattle.
