  • Patent number: 4501771
Abstract: An elastomer coated bias fabric for reinforcing power transmission belts and the like is disclosed wherein one face of the fabric is provided with an uncured, tacky, carboxylated elastomeric composition. In one embodiment, the fabric is prepared by pre-impregnating the fabric with a neoprene latex composition followed by coating the neoprene composition on both faces of the fabric, and after drying the fabric, overcoating one face only of the coated fabric with a tackified, carboxylated neoprene latex composition. A method and apparatus for manufacturing the coated fabric is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4490428
Abstract: An elastomer coated bias fabric for reinforcing power transmission belts and the like is disclosed wherein one surface of the fabric is provided with an uncured, tacky, elastomeric composition. The fabric is prepared by pre-impregnating the fabric, transversely stretching the fabric on a tenter frame, coating a latex composition on both surfaces of the fabric while maintaining the fabric in its transversely stretched condition, and after drying the fabric, overcoating one surface only of the coated fabric with a tackified, latex composition which may contain a chemical linking agent which enhances the bond between the elastomer and the fabric by forming a chemical bridge between them. A method for manufacturing coated fabric is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4474834
Abstract: A polymeric-coated fabric layer, product utilizing the layer and a method of making such layer are provided, the layer having opposed surfaces one of which is adapted to be secured to a surface of a polymeric product and the other of which is adapted to be a contact face for the product and comprising a fabric layer having opposed sides, and two layers of polymeric material secured in stacked relation to one of the sides of the fabric layer with the outer layer of polymeric material defining the one surface of the polymeric-coated fabric layer, only the intermediate polymeric layer initially having a slip agent therein that under certain conditions will migrate through the outer polymeric layer to the outer surface thereof to provide a degree of reduction in the surface coefficient of friction for the contact face of the product.

  • Patent number: 4205559
Abstract: An improved coating composition, coated reinforcement fabrics, reinforced rubber-based substrate products, and methods of manufacture thereof are disclosed. The coating composition comprises a carboxylated neoprene latex containing an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer of chloroprene and methacrylic acid, polyvinyl chloride as a colloidal stabilizer, and a high boiling oil derived largely from aromatic petroleum feedstocks through a distillation range of between about 195.degree. C. through 325.degree. C. The composition is highly stable, has a long shelf life, and is particularly suited for precoating textile reinforcement fabrics to provide a highly tacky uncured coating surface thereon having exceptionally long high tack in uncured, or green, state. The fabric is employed as a reinforcement layer or cover in rubber-based industrial products, such as power transmission belts, and may be applied in intimate physical adhesion therewith for subsequent vulcanization bonding thereto, as in a vulcanizing mold.

  • Patent number: 4116159
Abstract: Method and apparatus for coating a moving porous web with viscous coating material, particularly for coating bias-cut, woven fabric with a tacky neoprene composition, to fill the interstices and uniformly coat the faces thereof, comprising a tenter frame for moving the fabric in a horizontal path of travel while maintaining it in dimensional stretched configuration. A pair of coating heads having opposed discharge manifolds positioned above and below the path of movement of the fabric on the tenter frame are supplied with viscous coating material which is applied to the moving fabric. The fabric is dried after each coating application and subsequently collected for use as reinforcement in the rubber cores of V-belt contructions.
