  • Patent number: 10976181
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a path guidance panel. The path guidance panel provides separate display screens for showing the lateral and vertical guidance information. Each screen shows the current state of the respective guidance system, and shows what, if anything, the respective guidance system will do next. This provides a convenient display for the pilot to see the current and future states of the guidance systems of the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 10060747
Abstract: A flight management system for controlling navigation of an aircraft includes a path guidance panel having at least one mode selector for allowing user selection of guidance mode in which the aircraft is to operate. The system also includes at least one display device having rendered thereon a navigational map. A computer module receives aircraft data from one or more aircraft components, at least one of the aircraft components being a guidance system. The computer module is configured to use information obtained from the guidance system to cause the display device to render on the navigational map a current flight plan path that is the aircraft is following.

  • Publication number: 20180156633
Abstract: Systems and methods for a vertical flight display are disclosed. The vertical flight display consolidates information about the vertical controls and situation of an airplane for ease of use by the pilot. The vertical flight display may display a flight path plan, a flight path angle, and a potential flight path angle. The potential flight path angle may be employed to assist the pilot in total energy management. The vertical flight display may also display situation data, including altitude and vertical speed, and predictive data, including the consequences of the current control action. The predictive data is calculated by inertially quickening the result of control changes. The vertical flight display enables a pilot to quickly see the results of the control changes in order to coordinate pitch and power.

  • Patent number: 8111920
Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an avionics component to a level of certification. Steps include: receiving and sending data to a data monitor and an integrity monitor, the data monitor operating at a first level of certification and the integrity monitor operating at a second higher level; using the integrity monitor, determining where a feature of the data should appear on a display; checking if the feature properly appears, and if not, an error condition appears. The system includes: a sensor for sensing an aircraft condition; a data monitor for receiving and rendering data from the sensor, the data monitor certified to a first category level; an integrity monitor for receiving the data from the sensor and for calculating where a feature of the data should appear on a data display, the integrity monitor certified to a second higher level. If the feature does not properly appear, an error condition appears.

  • Patent number: 4061996
Abstract: Apparatus for monitoring the operational status of the air delivery and momentum injection subsystems of a Boundary Layer Control (BLC) system of an aircraft, by sensing an air flow parameter in the supply duct supplying air to the BLC manifold is disclosed. The air flow parameter is sensed as a ratio of two discreet pressures [stagnation/static (P.sub.T /P.sub.S) or static/static (P.sub.S1 /P.sub.S2)]. When the ratio falls outside of a predetermined range, an indication that the air delivery and momentum injection subsystem has failed is provided. The failure may be due to either a rupture or a blockage of the air delivery and momentum injection subsystem. A combined BLC status indication is provided by combining the signal related to the sensed air flow parameter with signals related to the correctness of the position of the valves controlling the bleed air flowing to the air delivery momentum and injection subsystem and the position of the high lift surfaces (e.g., flaps) of the aircraft.
