  • Patent number: 11259188
Abstract: A medical device comprises a medical imaging, diagnostic, or therapeutic component (10), and an access point (30) operating as a hub for a wireless local area network (WLAN) complying with a wireless communication protocol having a defined set of WLAN channels. The access point includes a radio (32), an electronic processor (34), and a non-transitory storage medium (36) storing a list of one or more critical medical WLANs (40) and instructions executable by the electronic processor. Scan instructions (42) operate the radio to measure traffic on the WLAN channels generated by critical medical WLANs listed on the list (40). Channel selection instructions (44) select a channel based on at least the measured traffic on the WLAN channels generated by critical medical WLANs on the list (40). WLAN operating instructions (46) operate the access point as a hub for a medical device WLAN carrying traffic on the selected WLAN channel.

  • Patent number: 9992685
Abstract: A medical body area network (MBAN) system comprises network nodes intercommunicating via short range wireless communication. A primary user database contains information pertaining to usage of a restricted spectrum by primary users wherein the MBAN systems are secondary users of the restricted spectrum. An electronic key generation engine comprises a digital processing device configured to generate an electronic key (E-key) indicative of whether the MBAN system is allowed to use the restricted spectrum based on content of the primary users database. An MBAN application server is configured to distribute the E-key to the MBAN system. The MBAN system includes a spectrum control sub-module comprising a digital processor configured to select an operating channel or frequency for the short range wireless communication based at least in part on whether the E-key authorizes the MBAN system to use the restricted spectrum.

  • Patent number: 9781724
Abstract: A medical system includes one or more MBAN devices that acquire and communicate patient data. The medical system further including one or more medical body area network (MBAN) systems, each MBAN system including the one or more MBAN devices that communicate the patient data with a hub device via short-range wireless communication, the communication of the patient data via the short-range wireless communication being within a predefined spectrum. The hub device receives patient data communicated from the one or more MBAN devices and communicates with a central monitoring station via a longer range communication. The one or more MBAN devices transmit an association request to the hub device on one or more auxiliary channels to associate each MBAN device with the MBAN system, the auxiliary channels being outside the predefined spectrum.

  • Patent number: 9232352
Abstract: A medical system includes one or more MBAN devices which acquire and communicate patient data. One or more medical body area network (MBAN) systems include the one or more MBAN devices communicating the patient data with a hub device via short-range wireless communication. The communication of the patient data via the short-range wireless communication being within a predefined spectrum. The hub device receives patient data communicated from the one or more MBAN devices, communicates with a central monitoring station via a longer range communication and one or more access points (AP), and determines the location of the MBAN system in reference to a healthcare facility. The one or more MBAN devices are inhibited from transmitting within the predefined spectrum when the MBAN hub device is located outside the healthcare facility.
