  • Publication number: 20210025402
Abstract: A cooling system for an automotive transmission is provided. The cooling system includes a housing defining a housing inlet. The housing defines an interior space that is in fluid communication with the housing inlet. A propeller assembly has a rotatable shaft and a blade extending from the rotatable shaft, which is configured to draw ambient air into the interior space of the housing through the housing inlet. A propulsion system assembly includes an engine configured to provide propulsion power through an engine output and an automotive transmission configured to receive the propulsion power from the engine output. A clutch is configured to selectively couple the engine output to the automotive transmission. The clutch is disposed in a housing, where the housing defines an ambient air inlet. A rotatable shaft having a blade is configured to draw ambient air into the housing through the ambient air inlet to cool the clutch.

  • Patent number: 10300785
Abstract: A cooling system for an automotive propulsion system is provided. The cooling system includes a housing defining a housing inlet and a housing outlet. An exhaust pipe may be configured to be fluidly connected to an automotive engine, the exhaust pipe and defining a passageway for exhausting exhaust gases originating with the automotive engine. The housing outlet is connected in fluid communication with the passageway of the exhaust pipe, which may be through a cooling conduit. The exhaust pipe is configured to suck air from the housing outlet into the exhaust pipe to define a cooling air flow path from the housing inlet to the passageway of the exhaust pipe. In one variation, the outlet of the cooling conduit has an open end placed in a slipstream of the vehicle rather than in the exhaust pipe.

  • Patent number: 8550226
Abstract: A transmission synchronizer assembly is provided that alleviates noise associated with functional clearances and backlashes. A synchronizer ring is provided that has a periphery with at least one tab extending at least partially radially at the periphery. An annular hub has at least one recess configured to receive the at least one tab to axially align the synchronizer ring with the hub. The recess and the tab define a clearance when the tab is received in the recess. A damping material is provided in the clearance such that the damping material contacts the annular hub when the synchronizer is moved about the axis of rotation relative to the annular hub. Such movement may occur during engagement of an annular sleeve with a gear whose speed is synchronized with the sleeve by the synchronizer ring.
