  • Patent number: 4785383
Abstract: A molded glass reflector member for a lamp unit employing a tungsten halogen lamp as the light source is disclosed wherein the engagement means for mounting said lamp unit replaceably in a socket member includes a particular configuration of the hollow cavity portion of the said reflector member to enable improved lamp focus and physical retention of said lamp unit in its socket. Specifically, said hollow cavity end protruding from the rear side of said reflector member includes both a recessed engagement surface for mounting said lamp in the socket member so as to position the illumination emerging from said reflector member more accurately along with additional molded depressions located on opposing exterior surfaces of said elongated cavity which cooperates with said recessed engagement surface to still more accurately position the lamp in said socket member.

  • Patent number: 4665471
Abstract: An all glass sealed beam headlamp unit is disclosed having polygon shaped lens and reflector members which is capable of being alternately sealed together with an adhesive as well as being fusion sealed by reason of the sealing rim construction being employed. Specifically, the cooperating and opposing sealing rim surfaces of both members include planar sealing surfaces located at the outer periphery which extend longitudinally without interruption around all sides of said members along with rib elements projecting forwardly from the planar sealing surface at all corners of the lens member with said rib elements being located at the inner periphery of said lens member for physical abutment with inner edge of the planar sealing surface located on the reflector member at the corner locations.

  • Patent number: 4654760
Abstract: An improved sealing construction is provided for an all glass lamp unit utilizing lens and reflector members which enhances the mechanical strength and hermetic seal when these lamp components are fusion sealed together. Specifically, the sealing rim surfaces of said lamp components are each provided with cooperating and opposing rib elements to permit direct physical abutment therebetween and thereby avoid forming void spaces in the sealing rim region when the fusion seal is made.

  • Patent number: 4499526
Abstract: A molded glass reflector member for a lamp unit employing a tungsten halogen lamp as the light source is disclosed having a recessed opening at its base end and which further provides an engagement surface for mounting said lamp unit. Specifically, said improved lamp unit includes a molded glass reflector member terminating at its base end in an elongated hollow cavity protruding from the rear side of said reflector member, said cavity having a recessed opening of smaller size at the rearmost end which also provides a recessed engagement surface for mounting said lamp, and a tungsten halogen lamp secured in said hollow cavity so that its light source is positioned at the focal point of said reflector member and the lamp inleads project through said recessed opening. In a preferred embodiment, said recessed opening is formed by spaced apart shoulders extending from the inner walls of the protruding hollow cavity.

  • Patent number: 4076143
Abstract: An improved rectangular shaped pressed glass sealed beam lamp unit is provided which includes a molded projection disposed at a particular location on the lens and reflector members to provide more reliable hermetic sealing when joined together at their peripheries. Specifically, the molded projections are provided on the back sealing surfaces of each rim region to reduce unwanted deformation which otherwise occurs when these members are initially formed by pressing the glass in molds. Said molded projections disappear for the most part during the aforesaid heat sealing assembly although the glass material remains in the rim region after joinder.
