  • Patent number: 11825249
Abstract: A method includes determining a first power level by performing a first series of measurements based on a first series of burst transmissions from an optical transmitter of an optical network unit (ONU) in an optical network. Bursts in the first series of burst transmissions include a first modified preamble. A second power level is determined by performing a second series of measurements based on a second series of optical burst transmissions. Bursts in the second series of burst transmissions include a second modified preamble. A first power level (P0) and a second power level (P1) are determined based on the first power level and the second power level and one or more additional parameters associated with transmissions from the optical transmitter are determined based on P0 and P1. Based on the additional parameters, it is determined whether the optical transmitter complies with specifications of the optical network.

  • Patent number: 11736840
Abstract: A method may include transmitting an open contention-based grant to optical network units (ONUs) and receiving, from at least one of the ONUs, a response to the open contention-based grant. The method may also include determining whether a collision has occurred in response to the open contention-based grant. The method may further include provisioning grants to ONUs in response to determine that a collision has occurred.

  • Patent number: 11706547
Abstract: An optical device may include a communication interface and processing logic configured to receive a broadcast contention-based allocation from an optical line terminal (OLT), wherein the contention-based allocation is associated with activation of the optical device in an optical network. The processing logic may also be configured to transmit a message in response to the contention-based allocation, wherein the message includes information identifying the optical device and receive, from the OLT, an assignment message or a feedback message in response to the transmitted message. The processing logic may be further configured to execute a retransmission procedure based on the assignment or feedback message indicating that a collision occurred.

  • Patent number: 10153842
Abstract: A device can include a first component to receive, from a first network device, a first upstream optical signal. The first upstream optical signal can be associated with a designated time slot of the first network device. The device can include a second component to receive, from the first component, the first upstream optical signal. The second component can split the first upstream optical signal into a second upstream optical signal and a third upstream optical signal. The second component can provide, to a second network device, the third upstream optical signal. The third upstream optical signal is not associated with the designated time slot of the first network device.

  • Patent number: 10044467
Abstract: An apparatus and method for receiving and transmitting data is disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, the method includes: controlling a data source output source frames at a first data rate; receiving a source frame at an encoder at the first data rate; reading a fixed number of n-byte data blocks from the source frame, wherein n is an integer; appending an (m-n)-byte parity block to each n-byte data block to form the fixed number of m-byte first code words, wherein m is an integer greater than n; prepending to the fixed number of m-byte first code words a first prefix to form an error correcting physical frame, the first prefix including an error correction indicator set to a first value and an extra data indicator set to a second value; and transmitting the error correcting physical frame at a fixed transmit data rate.
