    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the hydroxyalkylation of aldoximes and ketoximes by reacting said oximes with unsubstituted or substituted ethylene or propylene carbonate in the presence of a catalyst, which comprises the use of catalytic amounts of a N-alkylated, stable, organic amidinc base or a pyridine which is substituted by a secondary amino group. The compounds are important intermediates for the synthesis of herbicides.
