Patent number: 9977169Abstract: A lamp and a method for generating high power in laser applications includes a source for emitting optical radiation along an optical path and a holder configured in the optical path having a fluorescent body. The lamp and method further include a collecting unit configured to transmit at least a portion of the optical radiation emitted by the fluorescent body to an output of the lamp. The fluorescent body includes a shape that is elongated in a predetermined direction. Accordingly, providing a small spot and little divergence in conjunction with good heat dissipation leads to a high optical performance.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2010Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: PHILIPS LIGHTING HOLDING B.V.Inventors: Ralph Kurt, Ronald Reindert Drenten, Elvira Johanna Maria Paulussen, Adriaan Valster, Denis Fournier

Patent number: 9151469Abstract: The invention relates to a lighting device comprising: —at least one light source (11); —a reflective member (20) comprising a reflective surface (22) and an edge (21) (“first edge”) forming a light cut-off of light rays passing in a region adjacent to this first edge (21); —a light-modifying member (30) adapted to modify lighting feature(s) of light rays and having an edge (“second edge”). The light-modifying member (30) extends from the reflective member (20) to this second edge (31) over a surface area defined to receive a part of the light rays passing in said region. The second edge is designed such that, among said part of light rays, the light-modifying member (30) modifies proportionally more light rays passing proximate the first edge than light rays passing less proximate the first edge (21). The invention relates also to said light-modifying member (30) per se.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2011Date of Patent: October 6, 2015Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V.Inventors: Matthias Jouffrieau, Denis Fournier

Patent number: 8721101Abstract: The present invention relates to light emitting devices and more specifically to light emitting devices comprising light guides making use of total internal reflection (TIR). The light emitting device (100, 600) comprises a substrate (3), a plurality of light sources (2) mounted on the substrate (3) and a light guide plate (4). Reflective shielding (5) is arranged to shield the light guide plate (4) at positions were the flux of the direct light of the light sources (2) towards the light guide plate (4) have their maximum density in a powered state of the light sources (2). The reflective shielding (5) enhances the mixing of light and avoids glare problems. In-coupled is transmitted within the light guide plate (4) by total internal reflection so that light from different light sources (2) is mixed within the light guide plate (4). Further, at least a part of the lower surface is provided with an optical structure (6) for out-coupling of light.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2010Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Koninklijke Philips N.V.Inventors: Petrus Adrianus Josephus Holten, Giorgia Tordini, Denis Fournier

Publication number: 20120026721Abstract: The invention relates to a lamp and a method, preferably adapted for generating high power in laser applications. The lamp (1) comprises a source (3) adapted for emitting optical radiation along an optical path and a holder (5) comprising a fluorescent body (4), wherein the holder (5) is arranged in the optical path, a collecting unit (8) is provided which is adapted for transmitting at least a portion of optical radiation emitted by the fluorescent body (4) to an output of the lamp (1), and the fluorescent body (4) comprises a shape being elongated in a predetermined direction. In this way, a small spot and little divergence is provided in conjunction with good heat dissipation leading to a high optical performance.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2010Publication date: February 2, 2012Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V.Inventors: Ralph Kurt, Ronald Reindert Drenten, Elvira Johanna Maria Paulussen, Adriaan Valster, Denis Fournier

Publication number: 20100039819Abstract: A floodlight comprises means (110) for generating a parallel beam having a general direction (AA), a first convergent lenses array (120) for generating a plurality of convergent beams from said parallel beam, and a second lenses array (130) parallel to and integral with said first lenses array. The floodlight further comprises means for rotating simultaneously said first and second lenses arrays about an axis perpendicular to the general direction of the parallel beam.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2007Publication date: February 18, 2010Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V.Inventors: Denis Fournier, Matthias Jouffrieau

Patent number: 5760733Abstract: An apparatus for avoiding crosstalk problems when locating a vehicle travelling along an electromagnetic wave propagation path. The apparatus is particularly directed to rail transport. The apparatus includes a transmitter for transmitting electromagnetic waves suitable for propagation along the propagation path. A reflector is included for reflecting the electromagnetic waves which propagate along the propagation path. The apparatus also includes a receiver, a comparator, and a processor. The apparatus is configured so that the transmitter does not transmit electromagnetic waves along the propagation path at the same time that the receiver receives the reflected electromagnetic waves. Because the transmitted waves are not transmitted on the propagation path at the same time as the reflected waves are received, the receiver receives only reflected waves at a time when there is no crosstalk interference between the transmitted and reflected waves.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1996Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: GEC Alsthom Transport SAInventor: Denis Fournier
