Patent number: 7901343Abstract: The present invention provides a self-cleaning drying centrifuge for removing fluid from a concentrated particulate-filled fluid and peeling mostly dried particulate (solid) material from the centrifuge. In some embodiments, a high-efficiency centrifuge performs an initial separation and concentration of small particles from a contaminated fluid, and outputs a clarified fluid for reuse, and periodically purges concentrated particulates with high fluid content. The purged concentrate is then fed into the present invention's drying centrifuge, which substantially reduces the remaining fluid content. In some embodiments, the drying centrifuge is periodically stopped and one or more internal blades (peelers) are rotated around the inner wall of the drying centrifuge bowl to peel the accumulated solids, which drop into a collection container.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2007Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: Advanced Products Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Denis J. Dudrey, James N. Gehrking, Adelbert Gorham, Ronald L. Jorgenson, Rodger I. Spears, Lloyd E. Weisert

Patent number: 7077799Abstract: A self-cleaning centrifuge for clarifying contaminated liquids has a rotor assembly comprising nested first and second sets of concentric cylinders supported for rotation about an axis. The sets of concentric cylinders are rotatably connected. A motor is connected to rotate one of the sets. Contaminated liquid is supplied to the nested cylinders, and the liquid provides coupling between both of the sets so that both sets rotate about the axis. Centrifugal force causes foreign matter to collect on the circumferential surfaces of the cylinders. The resultant clarified liquid is collected for reuse. A selectively utilized brake provides sudden braking of one of the rotating sets to purge collected foreign matter from the cylinders. The purged foreign matter is collected for disposal.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2003Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: Advanced Products Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Adelbert Gorham, Denis J. Dudrey, James N. Gehrking, Ronald L. Jorgenson, David S. Paulson, Rodger I. Spears, Lloyd E. Weisert

Publication number: 20040112824Abstract: A self-cleaning centrifuge for clarifying contaminated liquids has a rotor assembly comprising nested first and second sets of concentric cylinders supported for rotation about an axis. The sets of concentric cylinders are rotatably connected. A motor means is connected to rotate one of the sets. Means supply contaminated liquid to the nested cylinders, and the liquid provides coupling between both of the sets so that both sets rotate about the axis. Centrifugal force causes foreign matter to collect on the circumferential surfaces of the cylinders. The resultant clarified liquid is collected for reuse. Selectively utilized brake means provides sudden braking of one of the rotating sets to purge collected foreign matter from the cylinders. Patent number: 6019809Abstract: Constructions and methods are described for collecting particulate material from gas streams. In one specifically described arrangement, a region of depth media is oriented upstream of a second region of depth media. A surface loading media is positioned downstream from the second region of depth media. In an alternate embodiment, a further region of filter media is positioned downstream from the surface loading media.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1998Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: Donaldson Company, Inc.Inventors: Brad E. Kahlbaugh, Susan B. Reinhart, Denis J. Dudrey, John T. Herman

Patent number: 5972063Abstract: Constructions and methods are described for collecting particulate material from gas streams. In certain specifically described air filter arrangements, a first, rigid, filter construction is used in conjunction with a removable and replaceable depth media filter, to form filter media. The preferred arrangement is configured so that the removable and replaceable depth media filter can be removed and replaced, without disengaging the first filter construction from a filter assembly or housing, if desired. Some preferred configurations and materials are described.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1998Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Donaldson Company, Inc.Inventors: Denis J. Dudrey, Brad Kahlbaugh, Erland D. Anderson

Patent number: 5762669Abstract: A filter construction includes a cylindrical pleated filter construction embedded in, and extending between, first and second end caps; and an inner liner positioned downstream from the cylindrical pleated filter. At least two regions of media are positioned upstream from the cylindrical pleated filter construction. The first region of media includes an upstream, region of media including a fibrous media having a percent solidity, within the filter construction, of no greater than about 3%. The second region of media is positioned downstream from the first region of media, and is upstream from the cylindrical pleated filter construction. The second region of media includes a material having, within the filter construction, a different efficiency of filtering than the first region of media.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1996Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: Donaldson Company, Inc.Inventors: Brad E.
