  • Patent number: 11047799
Abstract: A lighting device for total-internal-reflection fluorescence microscopy includes a substrate that is transparent to light, having a refractive index higher than that of water; a light-emitting device arranged in the interior of the substrate, suitable for emitting light radiation in the direction of a surface of the substrate, the light-emitting device being arranged such that at least one portion of the radiation reaches the surface with an angle of incidence larger than or equal to a critical angle of total internal reflection for an interface between the substrate and water; and at least one opaque mask, arranged in the interior or on the surface of the substrate so as to intercept a portion of the radiation that, in the absence of the mask, would reach the surface with an angle of incidence smaller than the critical angle. A lighting device to total-internal-reflection fluorescence microscopy is provided.

  • Publication number: 20140019179
Abstract: Novel tools and techniques for management of urban forestry projects. Some tools feature the integration of forestry tools and business intelligence techniques to provide enhanced insight into urban forestry projects and/or can incorporate data from a wide variety of data sources without the need for complex data transformation processes. In an aspect, some tools to enable urban forest project owners to capitalize on project offset credits as a revenue source. In another aspect, such tools can provide a variety of different analyses, from canopy analyses to tree health analysis, to work order generation, to carbon offset calculations, including the calculation of carbon offsets using accepted standards, to allow a project owner to quickly and easily establish the amount of offsets to which the project is entitled.

  • Publication number: 20070080702
Abstract: One example of a test board includes first and second communication ports configured for communication with a master device and a DUT, respectively. A bit error rate tester of the test board is arranged for communication with the master device and with the DUT by way of the first and second communication ports, respectively, and the bit error rate tester includes at least one IC whose maximum data rate is temperature sensitive. Finally, the test board includes a temperature control system arranged to control the IC temperature so that a maximum data rate of the IC can be adjusted through the use of thermal effects.

  • Patent number: 4780077
Abstract: A flame retention head assembly for use in a fuel burner having a fuel nozzle mounted coaxially within an air pipe. This assembly comprises a continuously contoured, outwardly diverging flame retention head mounted concentrically within the air pipe in front of the fuel nozzle. This head successively defines, starting from its inlet end: an air-and-fuel mixture chamber; a first expansion chamber; a throttle and a second expansion chamber. A spinner plate is mounted transversely across the inlet end of the head. This plate comprises a central ring provided with a central hole having a diameter substantially identical to the one of the fuel nozzle, and a plurality of blades regularly distributed around the ring to cause air to enter and swirl into the mixture chamber. A round-shaped deflector is also mounted concentrically transversally within the retention head, to cause the air and fuel entering the head through its inlet end to stay longer within the first or second expansion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4472136
Abstract: Four-stage flame retention head assembly for use in the air pipe of a fuel burner having a fuel nozzle mounted coaxially within the air pipe. This assembly comprises an outwardly diverging flame retention head mounted in the air pipe in front of the fuel nozzle. This head successively defines, starting from its smaller end, an air-and-fuel mixture chamber; a first inwardly open expansion chamber; a throttle section and an outwardly convex section defining a second expansion chamber. A primary air inlet annular plate is mounted transversely at the inlet end of the head and has a central opening circumscribed by a continuous annulus. The latter has a series of air inlet apertures and loovers over the apertures, the latter and the loovers causing swirling of the air as it enters into the mixing chamber. The first and second expansion chambers are provided with circumferentially spaced air apertures to pass air into the retention head to sustain combustion therein as well as to cool the head.

  • Patent number: 4082495
Abstract: An improved flame retention head assembly for use in the air tube of a fuel burner having a fuel nozzle in the tube. The assembly includes a tubular member having in sequence a conical, cylindrical, and flared section with air-fuel mixing means in the conical section, and air passage means in the cylindrical and flared sections. The size of the air passage means in the cylindrical section can be adjusted. This device with its air level combinations, allows an excess of combustion air of 5 to 15% only, thus resetting in flame temperatures of more than 3,000.degree. F.
